The Best Model of a Cat Is Several Cats [PDF]
Modern biotechnology is emerging at the intersection of engineering, biology, physics, and computer science. As such it carries with it history from several disparate fields of research including a strong tradition in deductive reasoning primarily derived from discovery focused molecular biology and physics.

We present a simple two-dimensional model of a “cat”—a body with zero angular momentum that can rotate itself with no external forces. The model is used to explain the nature of a gauge theory and to illustrate the importance of noncommutative operators. We compare the free-space cat in Newtonian mechanics and the same problem in Aristotelian mechanics

Calicivirus Infection in Cats [PDF]
Feline calicivirus (FCV) is a common pathogen in domestic cats that is highly contagious, resistant to many disinfectants and demonstrates a high genetic variability. FCV infection can lead to serious or even fatal diseases. In this review, the European Advisory Board on Cat Diseases (ABCD), a scientifically independent board of experts in feline ...

A Blocked-CAT Procedure for CD-CAT [PDF]
This article introduces a blocked-design procedure for cognitive diagnosis computerized adaptive testing (CD-CAT), which allows examinees to review items and change their answers during test administration. Four blocking versions of the new procedure were proposed.

Higgs Computed Axial Tomography, an excerpt. Taking a closer look at the camel-shaped tail of the light Higgs boson resonance and looking to the transformation of the (camel-shaped) signal into a square-root--shaped signal + interference with particular emphasis on residual theoretical uncertainties.

The role of cathepsin B, a lysosomal protease implicated in amyloid-beta (Abeta1-42) metabolism, in Alzheimer's disease remains controversial. In this issue of Neuron, Mueller-Steiner et al. manipulate the expression of cathepsin B in aged APP transgenic mice, observing that increased expression degrades preformed oligomeric and fibrillar amyloid ...
