Incidence, severity and prognosis associated with hypernatremia in dogs and cats. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BackgroundHypernatremia has been associated with substantial morbidity and death in human patients. The incidence and importance of hypernatremia in dogs and cats has not been determined.Hypothesis/objectivesTo describe the incidence of and prognosis ...

A large‐scale retrospective study in metastatic breast cancer patients using circulating tumour DNA and machine learning to predict treatment outcome and progression‐free survival

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
There is an unmet need in metastatic breast cancer patients to monitor therapy response in real time. In this study, we show how a noninvasive and affordable strategy based on sequencing of plasma samples with longitudinal tracking of tumour fraction paired with a statistical model provides valuable information on treatment response in advance of the ...

Factors influencing the relationship between the dose of amlodipine required for blood pressure control and change in blood pressure in hypertensive cats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: Hypertension is a common problem in elderly cats. In most cats, systolic blood pressure (SBP) of

Evaluation of facial expression in acute pain in cats.

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, 2014
OBJECTIVES To describe the development of a facial expression tool differentiating pain-free cats from those in acute pain. METHODS Observers shown facial images from painful and pain-free cats were asked to identify if they were in pain or not.

Multidimensional OMICs reveal ARID1A orchestrated control of DNA damage, splicing, and cell cycle in normal‐like and malignant urothelial cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the frequently mutated chromatin remodeler ARID1A, a subunit of the SWI/SNF cBAF complex, results in less open chromatin, alternative splicing, and the failure to stop cells from progressing through the cell cycle after DNA damage in bladder (cancer) cells. Created in BioRender. Epigenetic regulators, such as the SWI/SNF complex, with important

Dynamic mortality prediction in critically Ill children during interhospital transports to PICUs using explainable AI

open access: yesnpj Digital Medicine
Critically ill children who require inter-hospital transfers to paediatric intensive care units are sicker than other admissions and have higher mortality rates. Current transport practice primarily relies on early clinical assessments within the initial

Inter-observer variability for cardiac ultrasound measurements in cats repeated at different time points in early adult life [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A high degree of accuracy is required when using echocardiography to diagnose hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in cats, as variation in measurements of 0.5 mm may affect classification of individuals as ‘abnormal’.

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.
