Comparative Analysis of Gut Microbiota Among Captive Waterbird Species: Effects of Diet and Environmental Factors

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 3, May 2026.
This study reveals that diet drives gut microbiota differences in captive waterbirds (bar‐headed goose, ruddy shelduck, black‐necked crane), with protein‐rich diets shaping distinct microbial communities. Artificial lakes enhance microbial diversity compared to enclosures, offering insights for improving captive waterbird health.

A combined experimental and modelling approach for the Weimberg pathway optimisation

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Metabolic engineering is often hampered by non-linear kinetics and allosteric regulatory mechanisms. Here, the authors construct a quantitative model for the pentose degradation Weimberg pathway in Caulobacter crescentus and demonstrate its ...

Feedback Control of a Two-Component Signaling System by an Fe-S-Binding Receiver Domain

open access: yesmBio, 2020
Two-component signaling systems (TCSs) function to detect environmental cues and transduce this information into a change in transcription. In its simplest form, TCS-dependent regulation of transcription entails phosphoryl-transfer from a sensory ...

Genes related to redox and cell curvature facilitate interactions between Caulobacter strains and Arabidopsis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Bacteria play an integral role in shaping plant growth and development. However, the genetic factors that facilitate plant-bacteria interactions remain largely unknown. Here, we demonstrated the importance of two bacterial genetic factors that facilitate

Biowaste Composting as a Sustainable Platform for Bacterial CO Production: Evidence From cooS Gene Expression and Microbial Community Profiling

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 5, May 2026.
This study demonstrates, for the first time, the expression of the cooS gene during composting, confirming microbial CO production under mesophilic conditions. The results highlight composting as a novel waste‐to‐biochemicals process, offering a sustainable, low‐carbon pathway for generating carbon monoxide via bacterial CO dehydrogenase activity ...

The essential genome of a bacterium

open access: yesMolecular Systems Biology, 2011
Caulobacter crescentus is a model organism for the integrated circuitry that runs a bacterial cell cycle. Full discovery of its essential genome, including non‐coding, regulatory and coding elements, is a prerequisite for understanding the complete ...

Gut Microbiota‐Derived Anandamide Mediates the Therapeutic Effects of Urolithin A on Alcohol‐Induced Cognitive and Social Dysfunction via CB1R‐DRD2‐RAP1 Signaling Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 20, 9 April 2026.
This study reveals that Urolithin A (UA) counteracts alcohol‐induced cognitive and social dysfunction (AICSD) via a gut microbiome‐dependent mechanism. UA‐enriched Bacteroids sartorii and Parabacteroids distasonis elevate anandamide (AEA), which activates the CB1R‐DRD2‐Rap1 signaling cascade to drive synaptic repair and reduce neuroinflammation ...

A co-conserved gene pair supports Caulobacter iron homeostasis during chelation stress

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology
Synthetic metal chelators are widely used in industrial, clinical, and agricultural settings, leading to their accumulation in the environment. We measured the growth of Caulobacter crescentus, a soil and aquatic bacterium, in the presence of the ...

Da Yuan Yin Regulates Gut Microbiota and Improves Intestinal Injury in Sepsis

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
Sepsis mouse model was induced by LPS to investigate the effect of Da Yuan Yin (DYY) in vivo. Hematoxylin–eosin staining showed that DYY could reduce intestinal injury caused by sepsis. In addition, DYY can also inhibit inflammation, apoptosis, and promote cell proliferation in sepsis, and promote the expression of tight junction proteins.

Novel peptidoglycans in Caulobacter and Asticcacaulis spp [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1982
Peptidoglycan sacculi free of poly-beta-hydroxybutyric acid were prepared from whole cells of four species of Caulobacter and two species of Asticcacaluis and from morphological mutants of Caulobacter crescentus and Caulobacter leidyi. Acid hydrolysates of the sacculi were analyzed quantitatively, and each of the hydrolysates was found to contain ...
