CAUSATION IN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS: RECLAIMING CAUSAL ANALYSIS

open access: yes, 2017
Milja Kurki is one of the prominent theorists in IR tradition who follows Scientific Realist philosophy of science. In this book, causal analysis in Social Sciences, IR in particular was taken into consideration.

Methodology for the Causal Analysis of Rockburts in Deep High-Stress Tunnels: A Case Study of Conveyor Belt Tunnel in Andes Norte Project, El Teniente Codelco

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Rockbursts are one of the most critical geomechanical hazards during the construction of deep tunnels under high in situ stress conditions, as they can compromise worker safety, damage infrastructure, and disrupt excavation continuity.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

An Information-Theoretic Approach for Indirect Train Traffic Monitoring Using Building Vibration

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment, 2017
This paper introduces an indirect train traffic monitoring method to detect and infer real-time train events based on the vibration response of a nearby building.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

A causal analysis framework for land-use change and the potential role of bioenergy policy

open access: yes, 2016
We propose a causal analysis framework to increase understanding of land-use change (LUC) and the reliability of LUC models. This health-sciences-inspired framework can be applied to determine probable causes of LUC in the context of bioenergy ...

Response of Vegetation to Drought in the Source Region of the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers Based on Causal Analysis

open access: yesRemote Sensing
The vegetation and ecosystem in the source region of the Yangtze River and the Yellow River (SRYY) are fragile. Affected by climate change, extreme droughts are frequent and permafrost degradation is serious in this area. It is very important to quantify

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
