Causal Fairness Analysis

open access: yes, 2022
Decision-making systems based on AI and machine learning have been used throughout a wide range of real-world scenarios, including healthcare, law enforcement, education, and finance. It is no longer far-fetched to envision a future where autonomous systems will be driving entire business decisions and, more broadly, supporting large-scale decision ...

Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

The causality between intestinal flora and allergic diseases: Insights from a bi-directional two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
Background Growing evidence shows a significant association between intestinal flora and allergic diseases, specifically atopic dermatitis (AD), allergic rhinitis (AR), and allergic asthma (AA).

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Analyzing the Impact of Interest Rate on Dry Bulk Freight Market with Time-Varying Causality Method

open access: yesEkonomi, Politika & Finans Araştırmaları Dergisi, 2021
The interest rates significantly affect maritime markets, both with their role in determining the cost of ship investments and their role in determining the demand for goods in the world economy. We examined the impact on the freight market, which is the

Does stability of relativistic dissipative fluid dynamics imply causality?

open access: yes, 2010
We investigate the causality and stability of relativistic dissipative fluid dynamics in the absence of conserved charges. We perform a linear stability analysis in the rest frame of the fluid and find that the equations of relativistic dissipative fluid

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The Effect of Derivative Instruments in the Banking Participation Performance

open access: yesİstanbul Gelişim Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Dergisi
Turkish participation banks can use currency swap and forward exchange transactions among derivative instruments in line with some restrictions in Islamic law. In this study, the effect of using derivative instruments on participation banking performance

Continuous‐time causal mediation analysis

open access: yesStatistics in Medicine, 2019
While causal mediation analysis has seen considerable recent development for a single measured mediator (M) and final outcome (Y), less attention has been given to repeatedly measured M and Y. Previous methods have typically involved discrete‐time models that limit inference to the particular measurement times used and do not recognize the continuous ...

A Causality Analysis of the Relationships Between Gross Fixed Capital Formation, Economic Growth and Employment in South Africa

open access: yesStudia Universitatis Babes-Bolyai Oeconomica, 2019
In terms of macro-economic policy, gross fixed capital formation, which is the major component of domestic investment, is seen as an important process that could accelerate economic growth.
