The role of histone modifications in transcription regulation upon DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review discusses the critical role of histone modifications in regulating gene expression during the DNA damage response (DDR). By modulating chromatin structure and recruiting repair factors, these post‐translational modifications fine‐tune transcriptional programmes to maintain genomic stability.

RECONSTRUCTION OF THE CONTINUITY OF CAUSE-SPECIFIC MORTALITY TRENDS FOR THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA [PDF]

open access: yesEconomy and Sociology, 2015
The paper presents the stages of reconstruction of the continuity of cause-of-death time series for Moldova based on a special method developed by French demographers Jacques Vallin and France Meslé (Institut national d’études démographiques, INED).

Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy and associated causes of death: a cohort study with follow-up of 27–46 years

open access: yesBMC Women's Health, 2018
Background The aim of this study was to determine whether intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is associated with causes of death during on average 35 years follow-up after the delivery. Methods The study population comprised 571 women with ICP in

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Analysis of the Underlying and Multiple Causes of Death for the Kuwaiti Population 40 years or over; Part II: Causes

open access: yesJournal of High Institute of Public Health, 2009
Background: Death rarely results from a single cause; it can be caused by a variety of factors. Multiple causes of death (MCD) can provide information about the associations between causes of death revealing common combinations of conditions.

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

Assessment of the Data Quality of Cause of Death Registration in Iranian Hospitals in 2016

open access: yesمجله اپیدمیولوژی ایران, 2020
Background and Objectives: A large proportion of the data of cause of death is registered in hospitals in Iran. Assessment of the death data can help to identify the problems of cause of death registration system and improve it. Therefore, this study was

Myocardial fibrosis in stroke survivors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Stroke survivors are most likely to die of cardiac death, yet few undergo comprehensive cardiac assessment to look for reversible causes. Myocardial fibrosis (MF) is not only the hallmark of cardiomyopathy, but also a substrate for sudden cardiac death ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...
