Cavitation erosion resistance of plastics

Wear, 2011
Abstract Cavitation erosion tests were carried out for plastics, i.e. for epoxy resin, polypropylene, high-density polyethylene and polyamide 66, and the relation between cavitation erosion resistance and the mechanical properties was examined. Cavitation erosion resistance of plastics ranges between half and 30 times that of carbon steel.

Cavitation erosion resistance of heat-treated NiTi

Materials Science & Engineering A: Structural Materials: Properties, Microstructure and Processing, 2003
Abstract NiTi (Ti–50.8 at.% Ni) specimens were solution-treated at 1000 °C, followed by aging between 200 and 600 °C. The cavitation erosion resistance of all the aged specimens in deionized water was improved relative to the solution-treated specimen, with a maximum increase of about 8.7 times, which was achieved by aging at 500 °C. The results also

The influence of TiN coatings properties on cavitation erosion resistance

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2009
A series of cavitation erosion tests was carried out to investigate the influence of the TiN coating properties on cavitation resistance. The TiN coatings were deposited at various deposition parameters on austenitic stainless steel, X6CrNiTi18-10, by means of the cathodic arc evaporation method.

Mathematical description and evaluation of cavitation erosion resistance of materials

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2005
Abstract This work presents a mathematical model describing the cavitation erosion of materials. The model of cavitation erosion is based on Weibull's distribution. The model describes the influence of material properties i.e. relative resistance to plastic deformation and the stress intensity factor of the hardened surface layer under cavitation ...

Research on cavitation erosion and wear resistance performance of coatings

Engineering Failure Analysis, 2015
Abstract Depending on the nature of the working medium and working conditions, corrosive and cavitation damage shall arise to pump’s components. In industrial applications the corrosion-reducing coatings are sprayed on hydraulic components. But it is questionable whether such products actually do help under wear or cavitation loads or not.

The resistance of S235JR steel to cavitation erosion

Wear, 2020
Abstract The erosion resistance of S235JR steel to flow cavitation was investigated. In order to understand an influence of steel properties and cavitation intensities on the degradation mechanisms, low-carbon S235JR steel was tested in the as-received state and after thermal treatment (annealing) under four different flow velocities.

Cavitation and Erosion Resistance of Polymeric Materials

Journal of Friction and Wear, 2018
The paper analyzes the results of studies regarding the cavitation-erosion wear resistance exhibited by polyolefins in neutral, acidic, and alkaline model environments. Methods for testing the stability of polymers, measuring the subsurface temperature, and performing photo and video surface wear registration directly in the course of cavitation are ...

Resistance Against Cavitation Erosion of 14 Chromium Steels

Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1970
Abstract For 14 chromium steels of different composition and structure, cavitation-erosion damage has been studied and interpreted in terms of structure and strength properties. The use of chambered cylindrical specimens ensured a uniform attack from the very beginning of the erosion process and, thus, highly reproducible wear values. As

A metallurgical approach to improved cavitation-erosion resistance

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 1997
Although cavitation erosion in hydraulic systems is an old problem, the damage mechanism that culminates in material loss was not known with certainty until recently. An investigation is described that aimed at clarifying the damage mechanism in cavitation erosion and applying that knowledge to make hydraulic equipment more resistant to cavitation ...

Erosion Resistance Testing for Abrasion and Cavitation Resistant Coatings

SSPC 2015 Greencoat, 2015
Abstract Cavitation erosion of the rudder has been a serious problem in the high-speed container ship industry. It is well known that the lifetime of a conventional coating system is about 6 months against cavitation bubble collapse. Although STS 316Lstainless steel has been applied to prevent such a problem, there are several drawbacks ...
