Abstract Cavitation erosion tests were carried out for plastics, i.e. for epoxy resin, polypropylene, high-density polyethylene and polyamide 66, and the relation between cavitation erosion resistance and the mechanical properties was examined. Cavitation erosion resistance of plastics ranges between half and 30 times that of carbon steel.

Cavitation erosion resistance of heat-treated NiTi

Abstract NiTi (Ti–50.8 at.% Ni) specimens were solution-treated at 1000 °C, followed by aging between 200 and 600 °C. The cavitation erosion resistance of all the aged specimens in deionized water was improved relative to the solution-treated specimen, with a maximum increase of about 8.7 times, which was achieved by aging at 500 °C. In order to understand an influence of steel properties and cavitation intensities on the degradation mechanisms, low-carbon S235JR steel was tested in the as-received state and after thermal treatment (annealing) under four different flow velocities.
