Investigating Polymeric Elastomers for Cavitation and Erosion Resistance

Materials Performance
Cavitation and erosion damage are observed on water infrastructure. Mitigating degradation on mild steel traditionally includes stainless-steel weld overlays, which create a galvanic corrosion cell in immersion conditions. This can cause delamination of the stainless steel and subsequent loss of cavitation or erosion protection.

Deformation-Induced Martensite and Resistance to Cavitation Erosion

Journal de Physique IV, 1995
Exposure to cavitating liquids can induce surface transformation in metastable alloys, notably the 18Cr-8Ni class of stainless steels. The question of whether such transformation contributes to erosion resistance has not been resolved. To address that issue, two metastable stainless steels (Types 301 and 304L) and a near-equiatomic NiTi alloy were ...

Effect of Globular Microstructure on Cavitation Erosion Resistance of Aluminium Alloys

Solid State Phenomena, 2016
In this paper the effect of globular microstructure on the cavitation erosion resistance was assessed and compared to that of conventional dendritic one. Three different wrought aluminum alloys in as-cast conditions were investigated. The samples were completely characterized by metallographic analyses and microhardness measurements. Cavitation erosion

Erosion, Cavitation, and Abrasion Resistance of Choke Trim Materials

Offshore Technology Conference, 1984
ABSTRACT An experimental investigation was performed to determine the relative erosion, abrasion and cavitation resistance characteristics of selected materials. Testing was conducted under controlled laboratory conditions to simulate service conditions encountered in production and injection chokes.

Cavitation erosion resistance of sewer pipe materials

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Construction Materials, 2015
A cavitating high-pressure water-jet provided the means by which a range of materials (plastics, clay and concrete) were eroded. The measured erosion resistance was a proxy for an initially unknown combination of other properties: strength, fracture toughness, impact resistance, hardness, surface roughness, and limiting service temperature.

Effects of Boriding on Cavitation Erosion Resistance of Ti6Al4V Alloy

Key Engineering Materials, 2013
A pack boriding technique was employed to obtain a hard coating on the surface of Ti6Al4V alloy in this paper. The microstructure, surface appearance, hardness depth profile and the cavitation erosion behavior of the borided samples in 3.5% NaCl solution were examined.

Research on cavitation erosion and wear resistance performance of coatings

Engineering Failure Analysis, 2015
Abstract Depending on the nature of the working medium and working conditions, corrosive and cavitation damage shall arise to pump’s components. In industrial applications the corrosion-reducing coatings are sprayed on hydraulic components. But it is questionable whether such products actually do help under wear or cavitation loads or not.

Slurry and cavitation erosion resistance of thermal spray coatings

Wear, 2009
Abstract The slurry and cavitation erosion resistance of six thermal spray coatings were studied in laboratory and compared to that of an uncoated martensitic stainless steel. Nickel, chromium oxide and tungsten carbide coatings were applied by oxy fuel powder (OFP) process and chromium and tungsten carbide coatings were obtained by high velocity oxy

International Cavitation Erosion Test and quantitative assessment of material resistance to cavitation

Wear, 1999
Abstract In September 1987, during the ELSI VII Conference, the start of the International Cavitation Erosion Test (ICET) project was announced. The experimental programme consisted in testing 6 selected materials (single-phase aluminium and brass alloys, Armco iron, carbon and chromium–nickel steel, and a polyamide 6 plastics) at various laboratory ...

Standard cavitation erosion resistance of building materials

Hydrotechnical Construction, 1985
1. The current method of providing cavitation safety of spillways based on the assumption of a limited amount of erosion developing during a prescribed repair period requires creating an absolute scale of cavitation erosion resistance of protective lining materials. 2.
