Six monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) that clustered together in a statistical analysis of data submitted to the Third Workshop on Ruminant Leucocyte Antigens and mAb CC-G33 were tested for ability to stain COS-7 cells transfected with cDNA encoding human CD14. Only mAb CC-G33 recognised the human molecule. The six mAbs were compared with mAb CC-G33 by flow

Influence of CD14 polymorphism on CD14 expression in patients with extensive burns
Burns, 2009We sought to investigate the association of CD14 genotype with the risk of mortality after burn, and we also attempted to evaluate whether CD14-159 C/T polymorphism affects the kinetics and extent of CD14 expression as well as its release, and TNF-alpha expression in burned patients.

CD14++CD16− and CD14+CD16+ human monocyte adhesion to endothelial cells
Cell and Tissue Biology, 2010Two subsets of monocytes were identified in humans and other mammals blood based on different levels of CD14 and CD16 expression. These subsets have different patterns of adhesion molecules and chemokine receptors, which suggest different modes of interaction with endothelium and tissue traffic. Here, we investigated the ability of CD14+CD16+ and CD14++

Monoclonal antibodies to equine CD14
Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 2010CD14 is a receptor for the complex of lipopolysaccaride (LPS) and LPS-binding protein. Binding of this complex to CD14 in association with Toll-like receptor 4 provides a major pathway for the initiation of innate immune responses to bacterial pathogens.

The genetics of CD14 in allergic disease
Current Opinion in Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2003The 'hygiene hypothesis' implies that infections in early childhood prevent the development of atopy. Atopy is caused by the interaction of the environment with genetic factors. Therefore, both contacts with microbial products such as endotoxin as well as CD14, a gene involved in the immunological response to endotoxin, are discussed in this review ...

CD14 and Toll-like receptor 4/MD2 (TLR4/MD2) mediate the action of LPS on neutrophils. The anti-CD14 antibody and the TLR4/MD2-antagonist, synthetic lipid IVa (LA-14-PP), are known to inhibit the response of neutrophils to LPS. We studied the role of CD14 in LPS-induced priming of neutrophils for enhanced release of the superoxide anion.

CD14 Is a pattern recognition receptor
Immunity, 1994Septic shock caused by a diverse group of bacterial pathogens is a serious human disease. Recognition of bacterial envelope constituents is one mechanism used by mammalian cells to initiate responses leading to bacterial killing or, unfortunately, responses that also cause fatal septic shock.

Evaluation of CD14 in host defence
European Journal of Clinical Investigation, 2000An extensive search for the cell membrane targets for lipopolysaccharide (LPS), the major causative agent of Gram‐negative septic shock, resulted in the identification of CD14 as the major endotoxin ‘receptor’. Besides recognition of LPS, several new aspects of its biological functions have been described recently.
