Immunolocalization of CD44s in human teeth

Acta Histochemica, 2006
CD44s (standard form) is an integral membrane glycoprotein, which plays an important role in both cell-cell and cell-substrate adhesion. Few studies have demonstrated that CD44s and its isoforms are involved in mediating cell-cell and cell-substrate interactions in the periodontium and surrounding tissues.

Cd44 and Splice Variants of Cd44 in Normal Differentiation and Tumor Progression

1993
CD44, originally defined by antibodies as a leukocyte surface protein (reviewed in Haynes et al., 1989), has become a polymorphic family of proteins expressed in various cells and conditions. The polymorphism is due to differential modifications and to splice variation (Hughes et al., 1983; Omary et al., 1988; Kansas et al., 1989; Picker et al., 1989 ...

The role of CD44 in glioblastoma multiforme

Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, 2016
A transmembrane molecule with several isoforms, CD44 is overexpressed in many tumors and promotes tumor formation through interactions with the tumor microenvironment. CD44 has been implicated in malignant processes including cell motility, tumor growth, and angiogenesis. The role of CD44 has been examined in many cancer types.

CD44 Is a Marker of Endocervical Neoplasia

International Journal of Gynecological Pathology, 1999
The expression of CD44s, CD44v4, CD44v5, CD44v7-8, and CD44v10 was investigated immunohistochemically in a variety of neoplastic cervical lesions. Normal endocervical columnar cells exhibited no reactivity for any of the antibodies, whereas the subcolumnar reserve cells were strongly positive for CD44s, CD44v5, and CD44v7-8.

CD44-Based Detection of CSCs: CD44 Immunodetection by Flow Cytometry

CD44 has been described in many malignancies as a marker of cancer stem cells (CSCs). Several techniques can be used to detect these cells. Here we detail CD44 detection by flow cytometry, a precise technique allowing to determine the percentage of positive cells and the mean fluorescent intensity reflecting the CD44 expression by cells in the samples.

Lack of a consistent relationship between demethylation of the CD44 promoter and CD44 expression

Immunogenetics, 2002
Methylation of the CD44 promoter at one or more CpG dinucleotides has been proposed as being important in the control of CD44 expression. In vitro methylation of all CpGs occurring between bases -1 to -1374 upstream of the position of translation initiation repressed the promoter activity of mouse CD44 4.5- to 12-fold in transient transfection ...

Regulation of CD44 Isoform Expression and CD44-Mediated Signaling in Human Dendritic Cells

1997
Dendritic cells (DCs) express CD44, a cell surface receptor for the extracellular matrix ligand hyaluronate, involved in cell-cell interactions and cell migration. Besides the "standard" form of CD44, a variety of splice variants contain an additional extracellular region encoded by 10 "variable" exons termed v1 to v10.

Expression patterns of CD44 and CD44 splice variants in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Clinical and experimental rheumatology, 2012
It has been suggested that CD44 is involved in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). By alternative splicing, numerous CD44 isoforms can be generated which may play different roles the inflammatory process. We therefore studied the expression of various CD44 splicevariants in the circulation and synovial tissue of patients with RA and ...
