BATF and BATF3 deficiency alters CD8+ effector/exhausted T cells balance in skin transplantation

open access: yesMolecular Medicine
Background It is well-established that CD8+ T-cells play a critical role in graft rejection. The basic leucine zipper ATF-like transcription factor (BATF) and BATF3 are transcriptional factors expressed in T lymphocytes.

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor–Related Myositis and Associated Triad Overlap Syndrome

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) myositis is a rare but a highly morbid condition, particularly with the ICI myositis triad syndrome of myositis, myocarditis, and myasthenia gravis. We report the clinical characteristics of ICI myositis and all‐cause mortality in these patients.

FLT3L-induced virtual memory CD8 T cells engage the immune system against tumors

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Science
Background Previous research in FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 ligands (FLT3L) has primarily focused on their potential to generate dendritic cells (DCs) from bone marrow progenitors, with a limited understanding of how these cells affect CD8 T cell function.

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Expanding Chemical Space of Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles for Tunable Antiviral‐Like Immunomodulatory Responses and Potent Adjuvant Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a nucleic acid nanoparticle (NANP) platform designed to be rrecognized by the human innate immune system in a regulated manner. By changing chemical composition while maintaining constant architectural parameters, we identify key determinants of immunorecognition enabling the rational design of NANPs with tunable immune activation profiles

Programmable DNA‐Peptide Hybrid Nanostructures for Potent Neutralization of Multiple Influenza a Virus Subtypes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multivalent antiviral platform based on honeycomb‐shaped DNA nanostructures (HC–Urumin) is developed to enhance the potency and breadth of the host defense peptide Urumin. Through spatially patterned trimeric presentation, HC–Urumin disrupts influenza A virus entry, improves cell viability, and reduces disease severity in vivo‐offering a modular and ...

Intrahepatic CD161hiCD8+T Cell Recruitment Has a Pathogenetic Potential in Chronic HBV Infection

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease
Backgrounds and Aims CD8+T cells are crucially associated with the fight against hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. CD161 has been shown to express remarkably on HCV‐specific CD8+T cells.

LFA-1/ICAM-1 Interactions Between CD8+ and CD4+ T Cells Promote CD4+ Th1-Dominant Differentiation and CD8+ T Cell Cytotoxicity for Strong Antitumor Immunity After Cryo-Thermal Therapy

open access: yesCells
CD4+ T cells have been well-regarded as “helper” cells in activating the cytotoxicity of CD8+ T cells for effective tumor eradication, while few studies have focused on whether CD8+ T cells regulate CD4+ T cells.

Bimetallic Nanoreactor Activates cGAS‐STING Pathway via mtDNA Release for Cancer Metalloimmunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bimetallic Mn–Ca nanoreactor (MCC) is developed as a non‐nucleotide STING nanoagonist for cancer metalloimmunotherapy. MCC induces Ca2+ overload and hydroxyl radical generation, resulting in mitochondrial damage and mtDNA release. The released mtDNA cooperates with Mn2+ to robustly activate cGAS–STING signaling.

CD8+ T cells cure without killing [PDF]

open access: yesNature Reviews Immunology, 2019
Mala Maini describes a 1996 paper by Frank Chisari and colleagues that showed CD8+ T cells can exert potent antiviral efficacy against hepatitis B virus without lysing infected cells, through the production of antiviral cytokines.
