IL-21 Induces Apoptosis of Antigen-Specific CD8+ T Lymphocytes [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 2007
Abstract IL-21, a member of the common γ-chain family of cytokines, has pleiotropic effects on T, B, and NK cells. We found that IL-21 and the prototype common γ-chain cytokine IL-2 can stimulate proliferation and cytokine secretion by Ag-specific rhesus monkey CD8+ T cells.

Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

Immunization-induced antigen archiving enhances local memory CD8+ T cell responses following an unrelated viral infection

open access: yesnpj Vaccines
Antigens from viruses or immunizations can persist or are archived in lymph node stromal cells such as lymphatic endothelial cells (LEC) and fibroblastic reticular cells (FRC). Here, we find that, during the time frame of antigen archiving, LEC apoptosis

Production of Proinflammatory Cytokines by CD4+ and CD8+ T Cells in Response to Mycobacterial Antigens among Children and Adults with Tuberculosis

open access: yesPathogens, 2023
Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), remains a leading cause of pediatric morbidity and mortality. Young children are at high risk of TB following Mtb exposure, and this vulnerability is secondary to insufficient host immunity ...

Olink Proteomics Analysis Reveals Heterogeneous Responses to FcRn Blockade in Anti‐AChR Antibody‐Positive Myasthenia Gravis: FGF‐19 as a Novel Biomarker

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to systematically observe the clinical manifestations, immune cell subsets, and dynamic changes in serological indicators in patients with myasthenia gravis (MG) before and after efgartigimod (EFG) treatment. Methods We analyzed the baseline data, laboratory parameters, and lymphocyte subset proportions in MG ...

Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma with Aberrant Coexpression of CD5 and CD8 T-Cell Markers

open access: yesCase Reports in Oncology
Introduction: The expression of T-cell-associated antigens on diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is uncommon. The coexpression of ≥2 T-cell-associated antigens on DLBCL is even rarer.

Preproinsulin Designer Antigens Excluded from Endoplasmic Reticulum Suppressed Diabetes Development in NOD Mice by DNA Vaccination

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Methods & Clinical Development, 2019
DNA vaccines against autoimmune type 1 diabetes (T1D) contain a nonpredictable risk to induce autoreactive T cell responses rather than a protective immunity. Little is known if (and how) antigen expression and processing requirements favor the induction

Nonclassical MHC Ib-restricted CD8+ T Cells Recognize Mycobacterium tuberculosis-Derived Protein Antigens and Contribute to Protection Against Infection. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2016
MHC Ib-restricted CD8+ T cells have been implicated in host defense against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infection. However, the relative contribution of various MHC Ib-restricted T cell populations to anti-mycobacterial immunity remains elusive.

Immunogens and Antigen Processing: Report from a Global HIV Vaccine Enterprise Working Group [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Global HIV Vaccine Enterprise convened a meeting of a Working Group in July 2009 to discuss recent progress in rational design of the components of an HIV vaccine, such as inserts, vectors and adjuvants, and in understanding antigen processing and ...
