Osteoclastic differentiation of mouse and human monocytes in a plasma clot/biphasic calcium phosphate microparticles composite [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Cells & Materials, 2010
We recently demonstrated that blood clotted around biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) microparticles constituted a composite biomaterial that could be used for bone defect filling. In addition, we showed that mononuclear cells, i.e.

A Paraffin‐Based Photoresin: 3D Printing of Paraffin for Encapsulation‐Free Shape‐Stabilized Paraffin‐Based Phase Change Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A novel approach for fabricating shape‐stabilized paraffin‐based phase change materials via digital light processing 3D printing is demonstrated. The printed components contain up to 60 wt.% paraffin within elastomeric polymer networks, exhibiting excellent shape stability and stretchability.

Driving Micro‐Objects Using Optical Force due to Fluorescence Emission From Molecules

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Emission of fluorescence from a micro‐object in a specific direction is expected to generate an optical force driving the object in the opposite direction of the emission, like a rocket. To demonstrate this ‘photon‐driven micro‐rocket’, we prepared dye‐doped polymer micro‐object (PMO) one surface of which was covered with metallic film; the PMO ...

Rigid Macroporous Wood Microparticles Impart Universality and Scalability to Lightweight Foam Insulation

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
Rigid, lightweight foams for thermal insulation are produced using a universal and scalable method: results are compared between pilot plant trials, four wood residues, pulp, ocean water, and a biosurfactant. Two guidelines for using this method are suggested: use a distribution of rigid wood microparticle sizes and shapes and match the average ...

How to play macroscopic quantum game [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
Quantum games are usually considered as games with strategies defined not by the standard Kolmogorovian probabilistic measure but by the probability amplitude used in quantum physics. The reason for the use of the probability amplitude or "quantum probabilistic measure", is the nondistributive lattice occurring in physical situations with quantum ...

Hydroxyapatite Binding Peptide Lipid Nanoparticles for Biomimetic mRNA Delivery to Bone

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2025.
Targeted delivery of therapeutic mRNA to peripheral tissues, including bone, is currently challenging. In the current work, a hydroxyapatite binding peptide (HABP) is conjugated to mRNA lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). HABP‐LNPs delivered systemically are demonstrated to reduce transfection in the liver and improve transfection in the femurs of mice ...

Trapping, focusing and sorting of microparticles through bubble streaming [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
Ultrasound-driven microbubbles rectify oscillatory motion into strong steady streaming flow [1, 2]. In this fluid dynamics video, we show size-dependent trapping, focusing and sorting of microparticles, utilizing the interaction between bubble streaming and the induced streaming around the mobile particles.
