Compartmentalization of the splicing machinery in plant cell nuclei

Trends in Plant Science, 2004
The cell nucleus is a membrane-surrounded organelle that contains numerous compartments in addition to chromatin. Compartmentalization of the nucleus is now accepted as an important feature for the organization of nuclear processes and for gene expression.

Compartmentalized cell signaling in caveolae

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1995
Caveola undergo an internalization cyclic that begins with the conversion of a flat segment of membrane into a vesicle and ends when that vesicle returns to the cell surface. During this cycle, resident molecules are sequestered in the interior of the vesicle where they perform special functions.

Control of cell adhesion and compartmentalization in the intestinal epithelium

Experimental Cell Research, 2011
Continuous cell renewal in the intestinal mucosa occurs without disrupting the integrity of the epithelial layer. Despite the restrictions imposed by strong cell-to-cell adhesions, epithelial intestinal cells migrate constantly between tissue compartments. Alterations in cell adhesion and compartmentalization play key roles in diseases of the intestine.

Purkinje cell compartmentation of the cerebellum of microchiropteran bats

Journal of Comparative Neurology, 2009
AbstractTransverse boundaries divide the mammalian cerebellar cortex into transverse zones, and within each zone the cortex is further subdivided into a symmetrical array of parasagittal stripes. This topography is highly conserved across the Mammalia.

Facts and Concepts in Cell Compartmentation

1998
The discovery of intracellular membrane systems in the earliest days of biomedical electron microscopy has since proven to be of prime importance for cell biology and biochemistry. Endomembranes completely enclose diverse compartments in eukaryotic cells (eucytes) that, due to their particular respective complements of enzymes, carry out variable ...
