Time Until Neuron Death After Initial Puncture From an Amyloid-Beta Oligomer [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Hardy and Higgins first proposed the amyloid cascade hypothesis in 1992, stating that the decrease in neuronal function observed in Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is due to a process initiated by the oligomerization of amyloid-beta peptides. One hypothesis states that toxicity arises from the aggregation of amyloid-beta into a pore structure, which can then ...

Cell‐free DNA aneuploidy score as a dynamic early response marker in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
mFast‐SeqS‐based genome‐wide aneuploidy scores are concordant with aneuploidy scores obtained by whole genome sequencing from tumor tissue and can predict response to ARSI treatment at baseline and, at an early time point, to ARSI and taxanes. This assay can be easily performed at low cost and requires little input of cfDNA. Cell‐free circulating tumor

A theoretical basis for cell deaths [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Understanding deaths and life-death boundaries of cells is a fundamental challenge in biological sciences. In this study, we present a theoretical framework for investigating cell death. We conceptualize cell death as a controllability problem within dynamical systems, and compute the life-death boundary through the development of "stoichiometric rays".

Timing is everything: on the stochastic origins of cell-to-cell variability in cancer cell death decisions [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience 16:307-14, 2011, 2011
The diversity of cell populations is regulated by extracellular and intracellular variability. The latter includes genetic, epigenetic and stochastic variability, all contributing to the experimentally observed heterogeneity in response to external death-inducing stimuli.

Integration of single‐cell and bulk RNA‐sequencing data reveals the prognostic potential of epithelial gene markers for prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Prostate cancer is a leading malignancy with significant clinical heterogeneity in men. An 11‐gene signature derived from dysregulated epithelial cell markers effectively predicted biochemical recurrence‐free survival in patients who underwent radical surgery or radiotherapy.

An annotated high-content fluorescence microscopy dataset with Hoechst 33342-stained nuclei and manually labelled outlines

open access: yesData in Brief, 2023
Automated detection of cell nuclei in fluorescence microscopy images is a key task in bioimage analysis. It is essential for most types of microscopy-based high-throughput drug and genomic screening and is often required in smaller scale experiments as ...

Replicator Dynamics of of Cancer Stem Cell; Selection in the Presence of Differentiation and Plasticity [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Stem cells have the potential to produce lineages of non-stem cell populations (differentiated cells) via a ubiquitous hierarchal division scheme. Differentiation of a stem cell into (partially) differentiated cells can happen either symmetrically or asymmetrically. The selection dynamics of a mutant cancer stem cell should be investigated in the light

Etoposide‐induced cancer cell death: roles of mitochondrial VDAC1 and calpain, and resistance mechanisms

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The complex mode of action of the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide in triggering apoptosis involves several mechanisms: overexpression of the mitochondrial protein VDAC1, leading to its oligomerization and formation of a large channel that mediates the release of pro‐apoptotic protein; and overexpression of the apoptosis regulators p53, Bax, and ...
