Single cell growth and division models
Cells coordinate their growth and division to maintain a finite size. They undertake important processes within a cell cycle such as DNA replication. How these processes such as cell growth, DNA replication, and cell division are coordinated with each ...

Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Dynamic assembly, disassembly and bundling of the bacterial cell division protein FtsZ and YgfE (ZapA) [PDF]
The protein FtsZ is a tubulin-like GTPase, which plays an essential role in prokaryotic cell division. In vivo it assembles into a dynamic ring (the Z-ring) at the future site of cell division on the inner surface of the cytoplasmatic membrane.

Size sensors in bacteria, cell cycle control and size control
Bacteria proliferate by repetitive cycles of cellular growth and division. The progression into the cell cycle is admitted to be under the control of cell size. However, the molecular basis of this regulation is still unclear.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

A size-dependent division strategy accounts for leukemia cell size heterogeneity
Heterogeneity in the size distribution of cancer cell populations is linked to drug resistance and invasiveness. However, understanding how such heterogeneity arises is still damped by the difficulties of monitoring the proliferation at the typical ...
