Membrane permeability of isolated lung cells to nonelectrolytes
American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 1977Mixtures of viable endothelial and epithelial cells were separated by enzymatic digestion from rabbit lung and recovered by centrifugation. The cells were mixed with an extracellular marker and packed by centrifugation into small-diameter polyethylene tubing and pulsed with tritiated water and 14C-labeled alcohols.

Cell membrane permeability in hypertension.
Clinical physiology and biochemistry, 1989A great deal of evidence has been presented which suggests that a generalized increase in cell membrane permeability to various ions is a fundamental defect associated with hypertension. In addition, some of the evidence is supportive of a central role of this defect in the pathogenesis of hypertension.

Duration of ultrasound bubbles enhanced cell membrane permeability
IEEE Symposium on Ultrasonics, 2003, 2004Purpose: Ultrasound (US) has shown the ability to modulate the cell membrane permeability in a process known as sonoporation. In addition, the sonoporation process has been proven to be amplified when US is associated with contrast microbubbles. The purpose of this study is to quantify the duration of the sonoporation process for external molecules ...

Water permeability (Lp), calculated from the volume variations of cells subjected to an osmotic shock, is classically used to characterize cell membrane properties. In this work, we have shown the importance of the kind of mixing reactor used to measure the Lp parameter. A mathematical model including the mixing time constant has been proposed allowing

The Nanopore Connection to Cell Membrane Unitary Permeability
Traffic, 2005Artificial nanopores have recently emerged as versatile tools for analyzing and sorting single molecules at high speed. However, the biological cell has already developed a large set of sophisticated protein nanopores that are able to selectively translocate all types of molecules through membranes.

Permeability of the Cell-to-Cell Membrane Channels in Mammalian Cell Junction
Science, 1979The channels in the junctions of various mammalian cell types—primary cultures and lines—were probed with a series of linear fluorescent amino acid and peptide molecules of different size and charge. Permeability is limited by probe size and electronegativity, these two factors apparently being related reciprocally.

Paraquat Induces Cell Death Through Impairing Mitochondrial Membrane Permeability
Molecular Neurobiology, 2015Paraquat (PQ) as a Parkinsonian mimetic has been demonstrated to impair dopaminergic (DAergic) neurons and is highly correlated with the etiology of Parkinson's disease (PD) where the death of DAergic neurons has been mainly attributed to impaired mitochondrial functioning.

The Cell Membrane and Ionic Permeability
1991All living cells are surrounded by a cell membrane which separates the cellular contents from the outside medium. The organized contents of the cell, including the nucleus and such organelles as the mitochondria, Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, the endoplasmic reticulum, as well as the components of the cytoskeleton, exist in a watery medium — the ...

The Temperature Peaks of Cell Membrane Permeability
1987Any change in the structural organization of the cell membrane as the main permeation barrier, should be reflected in its transport behaviour. Studies of the temperature dependence of cellular water transport should therefore provide valuable information on the structural dynamics of the membrane.
