PERMEABILITY OF MEMBRANES OF DEAD FETUS [PDF]
Membranes of dead fetuses showed a three-fold increase in permeability to the haemoglobin molecule when compared with normal and stored membranes. The friability of some of these membranes was markedly increased and their strength and elasticity diminished.

High membrane permeability for melatonin [PDF]
The pineal gland, an endocrine organ in the brain, synthesizes and secretes the circulating night hormone melatonin throughout the night. The literature states that this hormone is secreted by simple diffusion across the pinealocyte plasma membrane, but a direct quantitative measurement of membrane permeability has not been made.

Permeability and topography of membranes
In this brief review, we will report that the permeability of both artificial and natural membranes depends at least on the following lipid parameters: (1) The nature of the hydrocarbon chains of phospholipids. Because of a less compact packing of unsaturated phospholipids when compared with saturated ones, the former barrier will be more permeable ...

Phenylalanine Increases Membrane Permeability [PDF]
Biological membranes are a crucial aspect of living systems, controlling the organization and distribution of different chemical components. Control of membrane permeability is especially important for processes such as electron transport in metabolism and signal propagation in nerve cells.

ULTRASTRUCTURE AND PERMEABILITY OF NUCLEAR MEMBRANES [PDF]
The fine structures of nuclear envelopes known to have different permeability properties were compared. Membranes of salivary gland cell nuclei of Drosophila (third instar) and Chironomus (prepupae), which are strong barriers to ion diffusion, and membranes of oocyte nuclei (germinal vesicle) of Xenopus and Triturus, which are much more ion-permeable ...

Permeability of the Alveolar Membrane to Solutes [PDF]
The lower lobe of the left lung of 54 dogs was isolated and perfused with a dextran-Tyrode's solution. The alveoli were filled with Tyrode's solution, and permeability coefficients were measured for diffusion of several substances across the alveolar membrane. The permeability coefficients of the pulmonary membrane for K 42

Radioresistance of the Liposomal Membrane Permeability [PDF]
The radiosensitivities of artificial and natural liposomes were investigated to clarify the mechanism of damage to biomembranes. Both liposomes were highly resistant to X-rays, SH-blocking agents, radiation protective agents, and these combinations in terms of leakage of K+ or glucose. The results mean that the membrane structure of lipids is resistant

Lysosome membrane permeability to anions
The permeability of rat liver lysosomes to some inorganic and aliphatic organic anions was investigated, using an osmotic-protection methodology. Lysosomes were incubated at 25 degreesC in 250 mOsm solutions of potassium salts of the anions, in the presence of valinomycin, and the latency of lysosomal hexosaminidase measured at intervals.
