The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

OxyHbMeter—a novel bedside medical device for monitoring cell-free hemoglobin in the cerebrospinal fluid—proof of principle

open access: yesFrontiers in Medical Technology
Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) occurs in up to one third of patients suffering from aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Untreated, it leads to secondary cerebral infarctions and is frequently associated with death or severe disability.

Method for separating biological cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
A method for separating biological cells by suspending a mixed cell population in a two-phase polymer system is described. The polymer system consists of droplet phases with different surface potentials for which the cell populations exhibit different ...

In vivo evidence for glycyl radical insertion into a catalytically inactive variant of pyruvate formate‐lyase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Dimeric pyruvate formate‐lyase cleaves pyruvate using a radical‐based mechanism. G734 serves as a radical storage location, and the radical is transferred to the catalytic C419 residue. Mutation of the C418‐C419 pair causes loss of enzyme activity, but does not impede radical introduction onto G734. Therefore, cis‐ but not trans‐radical transfer occurs

ConCORDe-Net: Cell Count Regularized Convolutional Neural Network for Cell Detection in Multiplex Immunohistochemistry Images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
In digital pathology, cell detection and classification are often prerequisites to quantify cell abundance and explore tissue spatial heterogeneity. However, these tasks are particularly challenging for multiplex immunohistochemistry (mIHC) images due to high levels of variability in staining, expression intensity, and inherent noise as a result of ...

P‐glycoprotein modulates the fluidity gradient of the plasma membrane of multidrug resistant CHO cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
To explore the impact of the overexpression of the multidrug‐transporter P‐glycoprotein (ABCB1) on membrane fluidity, we compared the transversal gradient of mobility and microviscosity in plasma membranes of drug‐sensitive Chinese hamster ovary cells (AuxB1) and their multidrug‐resistant derivatives (B30) using the fluorescent n‐(9‐anthroyloxy) fatty ...

A Novel Protocol for Culturing Polarized Proximal Tubular Epithelial Cells from Kidney Biopsies: Enhancing Platforms for Drug Excretion and Nephrotoxicity Studies

open access: yesJournal of Xenobiotics
The kidneys are integral to homeostasis but are susceptible to nephrotoxic compounds. Proximal tubular epithelial cells (PTECs) mediate drug metabolism and transport and are widely used in preclinical studies.

Regulation of Ace2-dependent genes requires components of the PBF complex in schizosaccharomyces pombe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The division cycle of unicellular yeasts is completed with the activation of a cell separation program that results in the dissolution of the septum assembled during cytokinesis between the 2 daughter cells, allowing them to become independent entities ...
