Upper-tract transitional cell carcinoma

Advances in ureteroscopic techniques have made it possible to treat many upper-tract tumors conservatively. Such treatment has demonstrated acceptable survival and renal preservation in high-risk patients, particularly those with a solitary kidney, bilateral tumors, poor renal function, or prohibitive operative risk.

AbstractA rare case of retroperitoneal transitional cell carcinoma arising from primitive urogenital remnants is described in a 50‐year‐old female. The patient had a 15 × 12 cm firm to cystic mass in the left iliac fossa which was markedly adherent to retroperitoneal structures and which could not be excised.

Canine TCC of the bladder is a disease for which early detection and multimodality therapy are likely to produce the most favorable results.
