In Planta Cell Wall Engineering: From Mutants to Artificial Cell Walls [PDF]
AbstractTo mitigate the effects of global warming and to preserve the limited fossil fuel resources, an increased exploitation of plant-based materials and fuels is required, which would be one of the most important innovations related to sustainable development.

Cell Wall Biology: Perspectives from Cell Wall Imaging [PDF]
Polysaccharide-rich plant cell walls are important biomaterials that underpin plant growth, are major repositories for photosynthetically accumulated carbon, and, in addition, impact greatly on the human use of plants. Land plant cell walls contain in the region of a dozen major polysaccharide structures that are mostly encompassed by cellulose ...

Characterization of the cell wall and cell wall proteins of Chromatium vinosum [PDF]
Highly purified cell walls of Chromatium vinosum were isolated by differential centrifugation, with or without Triton X-100 extraction. The isolated material had a protein composition similar to that of cell walls obtained by sucrose density gradient centrifugation. Twenty-two proteins were reproducibly detected by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide

Deconstructing the Cell Wall [PDF]
Any microorganism that attempts to colonize a plant must contend with the cell wall. One of the most conspicuous effects of microorganisms on plant cell walls is enzymic degradation. Our interpretation of the significance of this depends on our concept of the plant cell wall, which, however, is paradoxical.

Impacts of microalgae pre-treatments for improved anaerobic digestion: Thermal treatment, thermal hydrolysis, ultrasound and enzymatic hydrolysis [PDF]
Anaerobic digestion (AD) of microalgae is primarily inhibited by the chemical composition of their cell walls containing biopolymers able to resist bacterial degradation.

The Cell Walls of Platymonas [PDF]
SUMMARY: Electron micrographs of cell walls of the unicellular green flagellate Platymonas subcordiformis revealed no evidence of a fibrous construction. A preparation of walls was isolated, hydrolysed, and analysed by paper chromatography. The major components indicated were galactose and a uronic acid; glucose was not detected.
