Examination of the xanthosine response on gene expression of mammary epithelial cells using RNA-seq technology

open access: yesJournal of Animal Science and Technology, 2018
Background Xanthosine treatment has been previously reported to increase mammary stem cell population and milk production in cattle and goats. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms associated with the increase in stem cell population and milk ...

The Role of Auxin in Cell Wall Expansion

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2018
Plant cells are surrounded by cell walls, which are dynamic structures displaying a strictly regulated balance between rigidity and flexibility. Walls are fairly rigid to provide support and protection, but also extensible, to allow cell growth, which is

The Cell Walls of Platymonas [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1958
SUMMARY: Electron micrographs of cell walls of the unicellular green flagellate Platymonas subcordiformis revealed no evidence of a fibrous construction. A preparation of walls was isolated, hydrolysed, and analysed by paper chromatography. The major components indicated were galactose and a uronic acid; glucose was not detected.

Fungal Cell Wall: Emerging Antifungals and Drug Resistance

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
The cell wall is an essential component in fungal homeostasis. The lack of a covering wall in human cells makes this component an attractive target for antifungal development. The host environment and antifungal stress can lead to cell wall modifications

The Role of Cell Wall Polysaccharides Disassembly and Enzyme Activity Changes in the Softening Process of Hami Melon (Cucumis melo L.)

open access: yesFoods, 2022
To investigate the physiological and molecular properties relating to cell wall carbohydrate metabolism in fruit, the ultrastructure and polysaccharides compositions of the cell wall, as well as the fruit quality and activities of enzymes relating to ...

Plant cell wall integrity maintenance in model plants and crop species-relevant cell wall components and underlying guiding principles

open access: yesCellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2019
The walls surrounding the cells of all land-based plants provide mechanical support essential for growth and development as well as protection from adverse environmental conditions like biotic and abiotic stress.

Assignment of virus and antimicrobial resistance genes to microbial hosts in a complex microbial community by combined long-read assembly and proximity ligation

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2019
We describe a method that adds long-read sequencing to a mix of technologies used to assemble a highly complex cattle rumen microbial community, and provide a comparison to short read-based methods.

The Gram-Positive Bacterial Cell Wall

open access: yesMicrobiology spectrum, 2019
The chapter about the Gram-positive bacterial cell wall gives a brief historical background on the discovery of Gram-positive cell walls and their constituents and microscopic methods applied for studying the Gram-positive cell envelope.

Pectin Methylesterases: Cell Wall Remodeling Proteins Are Required for Plant Response to Heat Stress

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Heat stress (HS) is expected to be of increasing worldwide concern in the near future, especially with regard to crop yield and quality as a consequence of rising or varying temperatures as a result of global climate change. HS response (HSR) is a highly

Modifying lignin composition and xylan O-acetylation induces changes in cell wall composition, extractability, and digestibility

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels and Bioproducts
Background Lignin and xylan are important determinants of cell wall structure and lignocellulosic biomass digestibility. Genetic manipulations that individually modify either lignin or xylan structure improve polysaccharide digestibility.
