Background Xanthosine treatment has been previously reported to increase mammary stem cell population and milk production in cattle and goats. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms associated with the increase in stem cell population and milk ...

The Cell Walls of Platymonas [PDF]
SUMMARY: Electron micrographs of cell walls of the unicellular green flagellate Platymonas subcordiformis revealed no evidence of a fibrous construction. A preparation of walls was isolated, hydrolysed, and analysed by paper chromatography. The major components indicated were galactose and a uronic acid; glucose was not detected.

In this chapter, we will focus on the contribution of proteomics to the identification and determination of the structure and function of CWPs as well as discussing new perspectives in this area. The great variety of proteins found in the plant cell wall is described.

We describe a method that adds long-read sequencing to a mix of technologies used to assemble a highly complex cattle rumen microbial community, and provide a comparison to short read-based methods.

Photonics of fungal cell wall [PDF]
The cell wall serves as a mechanical protection for the fungi and controls the traffic of molecules entering the cell. However, the optical role of the cell wall has not been fully investigated. In this work, we use a computational simulation to evaluate the optical response of the fungal cell wall.

Cells, walls, and endless forms [PDF]
A key question in biology is how the endless diversity of forms found in nature evolved. Understanding the cellular basis of this diversity has been aided by advances in non-model experimental systems, quantitative image analysis tools, and modeling approaches.

Wall-Collision Effect on Optically-Polarized Atoms in Small and Hot Vapor Cells [PDF]
In atomic vapor cells, atoms collide with the inner surface, causing their spin to randomize on the walls. This wall-depolarizing effect is diffusive, and it becomes more pronounced in smaller vapor cells under high temperatures. In this work, we investigate the polarization of optically-pumped alkali-metal atoms in a millimeter-sized cell heated to $%

Lockhart with a twist: modelling cellulose microfibril deposition and reorientation reveals twisting plant cell growth mechanisms [PDF]
Plant morphology emerges from cellular growth and structure. The turgor-driven diffuse growth of a cell can be highly anisotropic: significant longitudinally and negligible radially. Such anisotropy is ensured by cellulose microfibrils (CMF) reinforcing the cell wall in the hoop direction.

Background Lignin and xylan are important determinants of cell wall structure and lignocellulosic biomass digestibility. Genetic manipulations that individually modify either lignin or xylan structure improve polysaccharide digestibility.
