Protein O‐glycosylation in the Bacteroidota phylum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Species of the Bacteroidota phylum exhibit a unique O‐glycosylation system. It modifies noncytoplasmic proteins on a specific amino acid motif with a shared glycan core but a species‐specific outer glycan. A locus of multiple glycosyltransferases responsible for the synthesis of the outer glycan has been identified.

Scaffolding of long read assemblies using long range contact information

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2017
Background Long read technologies have revolutionized de novo genome assembly by generating contigs orders of magnitude longer than that of short read assemblies.

Primary Cell Wall Modifying Proteins Regulate Wall Mechanics to Steer Plant Morphogenesis

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
Plant morphogenesis involves multiple biochemical and physical processes inside the cell wall. With the continuous progress in biomechanics field, extensive studies have elucidated that mechanical forces may be the most direct physical signals that ...

Pressure Dependence of Wall Relaxation in Polarized $^3$He Gaseous Cells [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A 83, 061401(R) (2011), 2012
We have observed a linear pressure dependence of longitudinal relaxation time ($T_1$) at 4.2 K and 295 K in gaseous $^3$He cells made of either bare pyrex glass or Cs/Rb-coated pyrex due to paramagnetic sites in the cell wall. The paramagnetic wall relaxation is previously thought to be independent of $^3$He pressure.

A Transcriptomic Analysis of Xylan Mutants Does Not Support the Existence of a Secondary Cell Wall Integrity System in Arabidopsis

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Yeast have long been known to possess a cell wall integrity (CWI) system, and recently an analogous system has been described for the primary walls of plants (PCWI) that leads to changes in plant growth and cell wall composition.

Modeling fungal hypha tip growth via viscous sheet approximation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
In this paper we present a new model for single-celled, non-branching hypha tip growth. The growth mechanism of hypha cells consists of transport of cell wall building material to the cell wall and subsequent incorporation of this material in the wall as it arrives.

Cell-cell communication in the vessel wall [PDF]

open access: yesVascular Medicine, 2001
Intercellular communication between cells within the blood vessel wall plays an important role in the control of artery diameter. The endothelial cells lining the lumen of arteries can evoke smooth muscle hyperpolarization both by the release of a factor (EDHF) and by direct cell-cell coupling through gap junctions.

Effects of cardiac motion on dose distribution during stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation treatment: A simulation and phantom study

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Cardiac motion may degrade dose distribution during stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation using the CyberKnife system, a robotic radiosurgery system. This study evaluated the dose distribution changes using a self‐made cardiac dynamic platform that mimics cardiac motion. Methods The cardiac dynamic platform was operated with amplitudes

Impact of Fungal MAPK Pathway Targets on the Cell Wall

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2018
The fungal cell wall is an extracellular organelle that provides structure and protection to cells. The cell wall also influences the interactions of cells with each other and surfaces.

Endopeptidase-mediated beta lactam tolerance. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2015
In many bacteria, inhibition of cell wall synthesis leads to cell death and lysis. The pathways and enzymes that mediate cell lysis after exposure to cell wall-acting antibiotics (e.g.
