Cytoprotective and Neurotrophic Effects of Octadecaneuropeptide (ODN) in in vitro and in vivo Models of Neurodegenerative Diseases

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2020
Octadecaneuropeptide (ODN) and its precursor diazepam-binding inhibitor (DBI) are peptides belonging to the family of endozepines. Endozepines are exclusively produced by astroglial cells in the central nervous system of mammals, and their release is ...

Mechano-Chemical Effect of Gelatin- and HA-Based Hydrogels on Human Retinal Progenitor Cells

open access: yesGels, 2023
Engineering matrices for cell therapy requires design criteria that include the ability of these materials to support, protect and enhance cellular behavior in vivo.

Role of the Mitochondrial Genome During Early Development in Mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
The role of the mitochondrial genome in early development and differentiation was studied in mouse embryos cultured in vitro from the two to four cell stage to the blastocyst (about 100 cells).

Pink1 and Parkin regulate Drosophila intestinal stem cell proliferation during stress and aging. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Intestinal stem cells (ISCs) maintain the midgut epithelium in Drosophila melanogaster Proper cellular turnover and tissue function rely on tightly regulated rates of ISC division and appropriate differentiation of daughter cells.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Meta-analysis reveals obesity associated gut microbial alteration patterns and reproducible contributors of functional shift

open access: yesGut Microbes
The majority of cohort-specific studies associating gut microbiota with obesity are often contradictory; thus, the replicability of the signature remains questionable.

Hematopoietic Cytokine Gene Duplication in Zebrafish Erythroid and Myeloid Lineages

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2018
Hematopoiesis is a precisely orchestrated process regulated by the activity of hematopoietic cytokines and their respective receptors. Due to an extra round of whole genome duplication during vertebrate evolution in teleost fish, zebrafish have two ...

Theory of Robustness of Irreversible Differentiation in a Stem Cell System: Chaos hypothesis

open access: yes, 2000
Based on extensive study of a dynamical systems model of the development of a cell society, a novel theory for stem cell differentiation and its regulation is proposed as the ``chaos hypothesis''.

Optimisation of growth conditions for ovine airway epithelial cell differentiation at an air-liquid interface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Respiratory tract infections are of significant concern in the agriculture industry. There is a requirement for the development of well-characterised in vitro epithelial cell culture models in order to dissect the diverse molecular interactions occurring

CCT4 promotes tunneling nanotube formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Tunneling nanotubes (TNTs) are membranous tunnel‐like structures that transport molecules and organelles between cells. They vary in thickness, and thick nanotubes often contain microtubules in addition to actin fibers. We found that cells expressing monomeric CCT4 generate many thick TNTs with tubulin.
