Gene Expression Divergence Between Locally Adapted Inland Annual and Coastal Perennial Ecotypes of Mimulus guttatus Across Developmental Stages

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The action of natural selection across heterogeneous natural landscapes drives local adaptation and the formation of plant ecotypes, the precursors to new species. Plant ecotypes typically differ significantly in morphology, physiology, and development, yet our understanding of their underlying genetic basis remains limited.

A new approach to measurement of saccharifying capacities of crude cellulase

open access: yesBioResources, 2006
A practical, quantitative approach has been designed, which makes it possible to accurately estimate the saccharifying activities of crude cellulase preparations for insoluble cellulosics.

Aphid effector Mp10 balances immune suppression and defence activation through EDS1‐dependent modulation of plant DAMP responses

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Damage‐associated molecular pattern (DAMP)‐triggered immunity (DTI) serves as a crucial first line of defence against aphid attack, yet how aphids manage this response remains unclear. By investigating the colonisation of Arabidopsis thaliana by the highly polyphagous peach–potato aphid (Myzus persicae), we identified cell wall‐derived DAMPs ...

Conserved spatial patterning of gene expression in independent lineages of C4 plants

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary C4 photosynthesis enhances carbon fixation efficiency by reducing photorespiration through the use of an oxygen‐insensitive carboxylase and spatial separation of photosynthesis between mesophyll and bundle sheath cells. The C4 pathway has evolved independently in > 60 plant lineages, but molecular mechanisms underpinning this convergence remain

Mapping the transcriptional landscape of algal resistance to viral infection reveals a core expression program

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Algal blooms and their demise by viruses drive global‐scale ecological processes in the ocean. These blooms form the foundation of marine food webs, regulate microbial communities, and shape biogeochemical cycles. Although algal populations are constantly infected by viruses, resistant subpopulations frequently emerge after the infection.

Highly efficient transgene‐free ErCas12a RNP‐protoplast genome editing and single‐cell regeneration in Nicotiana benthamiana for glyco‐engineering

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary Nicotiana benthamiana serves as a unique platform for biopharmaceutical production, offering advantages such as efficient and scalable protein synthesis. In addition, custom N‐glycans can be engineered on biopharmaceutical glycoproteins. Yet, plant‐native glycosyltransferases and glycoside hydrolases need to be removed to prevent undesired ...
