Cytotoxic cembranoids from the gorgonian pseudopterogorgia bipinnata

Tetrahedron Letters, 1989
Abstract Four new cytotoxic cembranoids, denoted as bipinnatins a-d, have been isolated from the gorgonian coral Pseudopterogorgia bipinnata . Their structures were determined through a combination of spectroscopic and x-ray crystallographic methods.

Cembranoids, Pseudopteranoids, and Cubitanoids of Natural Occurrence

1992
The structures of (+)-cembrene (1), a macrocyclic diterpene hydrocarbon isolated from pine oleoresins (1, 2), and of the two epimeric cembratrienediols 35 and 36, which were obtained from tobacco (3), were reported in 1962. Since these pioneering studies, the structures of some 300 naturally occurring cembranoids have been resolved.

Characterization of Cembranoid Interaction with the Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor

The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, 1998
The class of diterpenoids with a 14-carbon cembrane ring, the cembranoids, includes both competitive and noncompetitive inhibitors of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (AChR). All 20 coelenterate-derived cembranoids studied in this report inhibited [piperidyl-3,4-3H]-phencyclidine ([3H]-PCP) binding to its high-affinity site on the electric organ ...

New Cembranoid Diterpenes from Sarcophyton trocheliophorum

British Journal of Pharmaceutical Research, 2015
Aims: To isolate the unpolar bioactive diterpenes in pure forms from the soft coral Sarcophyton trocheliophorum, collected from Red Sea at the Egyptian coasts, and to identify their structures using diverse spectroscopic means (NMR [1D&2D] and MS). Additionally, to study the antimicrobial and cytotoxicity of the isolated compounds compared with the ...

Mode of cembranoid action on embryonic muscle acetylcholine receptor

Journal of Neuroscience Research, 2007
AbstractThe mechanism of eupalmerin acetate (EUAC) actions on the embryonic muscle nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) in BC3H‐1 cells was studied by using whole‐cell and single‐channel patch‐clamp current measurements. With whole‐cell currents, EUAC did not act as an agonist on this receptor. Coapplication of 30 μM EUAC with 50 μM, 100 μM, or 500

Attempted acid-catalyzed transannular reactions in the cembranoids

Tetrahedron, 1985
Abstract Several cembrane diterpenes were treated by various acids under different experimental conditions. All tested compounds were found to be acid sensitive, leading either to local chemical transformations (e.g. opening of epoxides), to transannular reactions and/or to unidentified mixtures.

Chemoenzymatic Route to Oxyfunctionalized Cembranoids Facilitated by Substrate and Protein Engineering.

Chemistry, 2018
Cembranoids constitute a large family of 14-membered oxygenated macrocyclic diterpenoids with potential as therapeutic agents. Selective late-stage oxidations of cembranoid scaffolds remain a challenge for chemical catalysts but can be accomplished by ...

Quorumolides A-C, Three Cembranoids from Euphorbia antiquorum.

Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2018
Three highly modified cembranoids, quorumolides A-C (1-3), were isolated from Euphorbia antiquorum. Compound 1 is the first example of a cembranoid embedding an α,β-unsaturated-γ-lactone and a tetrahydro-2H-pyran motif within the 14-membered ring ...
