Volume‐Stable Collagen Matrix as a Recombinant Human Bone Morphogenetic Protein‐2 Carrier for Maxillary Sinus Augmentation: An Experimental In Vivo Study

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Periodontology, Volume 53, Issue 2, Page 299-307, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim To test the hypothesis that a volume‐stable collagen matrix (VCMX) can serve as an effective rhBMP‐2 carrier for bone regeneration while compensating for the volume instability of absorbable collagen sponge (ACS). Materials and Methods (i) rhBMP‐2 release kinetics from VCMX and ACS were measured over 7 days by enzyme‐linked immunosorbent ...

Tooth–bone attachment tissue is produced by cells with a mixture of odontoblastic and osteoblastic features in reptiles

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 248, Issue 2, Page 251-268, February 2026.
Tooth attachment in vertebrates ranges from ligament‐based anchorage in mammals to direct fusion in many reptiles. In the veiled chameleon, we identified a transient cell population—termed ankyloblasts—at the tooth‐bone interface. These cells exhibit both odontoblast‐ and osteoblast‐like features.

Commentary on Seersholm Et al.: Yersinia pestis Infection Is Not Synonymous With Deadly Plague in Neolithic Scandinavia

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Biological Anthropology, Volume 189, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Emerging genomic evidence has identified ancestral strains of Yersinia pestis in ancient human populations, which has sparked debates about its pathogenic role in later Neolithic societies. Here, we review published evidence linking anthropological and biological data reflecting the past natural history of Y.

Dental fluorosis in the European roe deer (Capreolus capreolus): A review of the pathological changes in the enamel of fluorotic cheek teeth and the abnormal pattern of dental wear in affected dentitions

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 1, Page 166-186, January 2026.
Abstract This article reviews the pathological changes in the enamel of permanent mandibular cheek teeth and their sequelae in European roe deer from regions polluted by anthropogenic fluoride emissions. The primary (developmental) changes of fluorotic roe deer enamel are hypomineralization and microstructural aberrations, including enamel hypoplasia ...
