Improved Census Transforms for Resource-Optimized Stereo Vision

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, 2013
Real-time stereo vision has proven to be a useful technology with many applications. However, the computationally intensive nature of stereo vision algorithms makes real-time implementation difficult in resource-limited systems. The field-programmable gate array (FPGA) has proven to be very useful in the implementation of local stereo methods, yet the ...

Illumination normalization for face recognition using the census transform

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
A problem with face recognition is that lighting conditions can affect performance since facial features are easily distorted by varying illumination conditions. To address this problem, we present a new preprocessing method using the census transform.

Hyperspectral change detection based on Multi-band Census Transform

2014 22nd Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU), 2014
Change detection aims to detect the differences occurring between images of the same scene taken at different times. Hyperspectral images, due to their high spectral resolution, provide more reliable results for change detection applications with respect to other imaging systems.

Stereo Matching Based on Improved Census Transform

2018 IEEE 4th International Conference on Computer and Communications (ICCC), 2018
In order to reduce the mismatch rate of binocular stereo matching algorithm, a stereo matching algorithm based on improved Census transform is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the classical Census transform is improved, the mean value rather than the center pixel is used as the reference value, and the three states based on the pixels' distances are ...

Adaptive Census Transform: A novel hardware-oriented stereovision algorithm

Computer Vision and Image Understanding, 2013
This paper presents a new hardware-oriented approach for the extraction of disparity maps from stereo images. The proposed method is based on the herein named Adaptive Census Transform that exploits adaptive support weights during the image transformation; the adaptively weighted sum of SADs is then used as the dissimilarity metric.

Optimizing the Census Transform on CUDA enabled GPUs

2012 IEEE 8th International Conference on Intelligent Computer Communication and Processing, 2012
The Census Transform is one of the most widely used matching metrics in problems that involve correspondence search such as stereo reconstruction and optical flow. Graphic processing units (GPUs) have become popular platforms for such computation intensive applications that expose a high degree of data parallelism.

Gradient-Based Modified Census Transform for Optical Flow

2010
To enable the precise detection of persons walking or running on the ground using unmannedMicro Aerial Vehicles (MAVs), we present the evaluation of the MCT algorithm based on intensity as well as gradient images for optical flow, focusing on accuracy as well as low computational complexity to enable the real-time implementation in light-weight ...

Ice Detection Transmission Line Based on Improved Census Transform

2021
The transmission line is one of the important components of the power system, which is of great significance to ensure power supply reliability. At present, the transmission line image icing detection based on 3D reconstruction mainly combines the camera parameters and the disparity map obtained by stereo matching to perform 3D reconstruction of the ...

MCCT: a multi-channel complementary census transform for image classification

Signal, Image and Video Processing, 2017
Census transformation and its variants have gained popularity in image classification for their simplicity and better performance. To describe a texture pattern, these approaches generally use sign information while comparing neighboring pixels. However, our observation is that sign and magnitude in a single color channel as well as in different color ...

Local binary feature based on census transform for mobile robot

2014 Joint 7th International Conference on Soft Computing and Intelligent Systems (SCIS) and 15th International Symposium on Advanced Intelligent Systems (ISIS), 2014
This paper presents a very simple descriptor for local image feature that is detected by DOB (Difference of Boxes) proposed in CenSurE. Image feature is often used to navigate a mobile robot, and some methods that are robust for scale and illumination changes are developed such as SIFT and CenSurE. However these descriptors still has heavy computation,
