The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Building collaboration? Co-location and “dis-location” in a railway control post

open access: yesRAE: Revista de Administração de Empresas, 2017
This paper studies the design of co-located spaces and how organizational actors experience such spaces. The literature on co-location is ambiguous about how reduced physical distance increases collaboration.

Chiellini Hamiltonian Lienard differential systems

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2019
We characterize the centers of the Chiellini Hamiltonian Lienard second-order differential equations $x'=y$, $y'=-f(x) y -g(x)$ where $g(x)=f(x) (k - \alpha (1 +\alpha) \int f(x) dx )$ with $\alpha, k \in \mathbb{R}$.

On the center-focus problem for the equation $\frac{dy}{dx} + \sum_{i=1}^n a_i(x) y^i = 0, 0\leq x \leq 1$ where $a_i$ are polynomials [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Henri Lebesgue, 2020
We study irreducible components of the set of polynomial plane differential systems with a center, which can be seen as a modern formulation of the classical center-focus problem. The emphasis is given on the interrelation between the geometry of the center set and the Picard–lefschetz theory of the bifurcation (or Poincaré–Pontryagin–Melnikov ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Constant invariant solutions of the Poincare center-focus problem

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2010
We consider the classical Poincare problem $$ frac{dx}{dt}=-y-p(x,y),quad frac{dy}{dt}=x+q(x,y) $$ where $p,q$ are homogeneous polynomials of degree $n geq 2$.

Efficient Bounding Schemes for the Two-Center Hybrid Flow Shop Scheduling Problem with Removal Times

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
We focus on the two-center hybrid flow shop scheduling problem with identical parallel machines and removal times. The job removal time is the required duration to remove it from a machine after its processing.

User-fair designing emergency service systems

open access: yesTransport, 2019
The usual approach to emergency system design consists in deploying a given number of service centers to minimize the disutility perceived by an average user, what is called “min-sum” or “system approach”.

Monodromy problem and Tangential center-focus problem for product of generic lines in $\mathbb{P}^2$

open access: yes, 2022
We consider the rational map $F$ defined by the quotient of products of lines in general position and we study the monodromy problem and tangential center-focus problem for the fibration associated with $F$. Thus, we study the submodule of the 1-homology group of a regular fiber of $F$ generated by the orbit of the monodromy action on a vanishing cycle.

Effect of aspect ratio on transverse diffusive broadening: A lattice Boltzmann study

open access: yes, 2009
We study scaling laws characterizing the inter-diffusive zone between two miscible fluids flowing side by side in a Y-shape laminar micromixer using the lattice Boltzmann method.
