Stochastic processes in postural center-of-pressure profiles

Experimental Brain Research, 1997
The stochastic processes of postural center-of-pressure profiles were examined in 3- and 5-year-old children, young adult students (mean 20 years), and an elderly age group (mean 67 years). Subjects stood still in an upright bipedal stance on a force platform under vision and nonvision conditions.

Evaluation of plantar pressures and center of pressure trajectories in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

2021
Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) has been postulated to affect gait patterns and postural stability due to its effect on center of body mass. 1) Determine the correlation between Cobb angle and COP in the anterior-posterior (AP) direction, COP in the medial-lateral (ML) direction, COP oscillation (COP-O) from midline walking, peak pressures, and ...

The Center of Pressure Path in Treated Clubfeet

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1981
The center of pressure paths of foot-floor contact were examined in detail in normal subjects and a group of 44 patients with treated clubfeet. The foot-floor contact areas were wide and the center of pressure paths more variable in clubfeet patients.

Center-of-Pressure Gates for Irrigation

Applied Engineering in Agriculture, 1991
Center-of-pressure gates, sometimes referred to as pressure gates, were developed and field tested to semi-automate basin and border irrigation systems. The gates use the principle of hydrostatic pressure distribution for operation and are constructed with a pivot shaft located at approximately one-third the water depth above the bottom of the gate ...

Linear sway-referencing control: center of pressure vs. center of mass

Proceedings of 18th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2002
Sway-referenced control strategies based on center of pressure (COP) feedback and center of mass (COM) feedback were investigated using a linearly mobile platform (SLIP-FALLS). Four young adults (age range 24-32 years) were compared under the three sway test conditions: a fixed platform, a sway-referenced platform based on COP feedback, and a sway ...

The pressure distribution of hollow cathode centered negative pressure arc

Journal of Manufacturing Processes, 2016
Abstract As a newly modified welding heat source, hollow cathode centered negative pressure arc (HCCNPA) has obvious changes in arc morphology and pressure distribution in comparison with traditional gas tungsten arc (GTA). To better understand of these, in this paper the arc behavior was monitored by using a high-speed image processing system.

Ambulatory Center of Mass Prediction Using Body Accelerations and Center of Foot Pressure

IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 2008
The center of body mass (COM), center of foot pressure (COP), and body segment acceleration signals are commonly used to indicate movement performance and stability during standing activities and walking. For balance maintenance and restoration, the human brain is capable of estimating and predicting the COM even in the absence of visual or vestibular ...

Performance of Low Pressure Center Pivot Systems

Transactions of the ASAE, 1984
ABSTRACT A computer simulation model was used to compare the effect of sprinkler spacing and terrain on the theoretical performance of six center pivots. Systems with impact sprinklers and low pressure fixed head spray sprinklers had the highest uniformities for constant spacings of 12 and 1.5 m, respectively.

Pressure dependence of F-center hyperfine interactions

Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, 1972
Abstract We report a study of the effects of intense hydrostatic stress (10 Kbar) on the ENDOR spectra of F -centers in several alkali halides. In LiF, KCl, and KBr, the first shell contact hyperfine interaction constant, a I , increases with compression, while the second shell term, a II , decreases.

Biomechanical relationship between center of gravity and center of pressure during standing

IEEE Transactions on Rehabilitation Engineering, 1994
The relationship between the position of a body's center of gravity (CG) as determined by a whole body kinematic model and that given by 3 CG position estimation techniques using the ground reaction force center of pressure (CP) has been investigated in this study. The CG and CP are related by the Newtonian mechanics equations of motion.
