The influence of revised high-heeled shoes on foot pressure and center of pressure during standing in young women

open access: yesJournal of Physical Therapy Science, 2015
[Purpose] Revised high-heeled shoes were developed to minimize foot deformities by reducing excessive load on the forefoot during walking or standing in adult females, who frequently wear standard high-heeled shoes.

Equation of state and phonon frequency calculations of diamond at high pressures

open access: yes, 2003
The pressure-volume relationship and the zone-center optical phonon frequency of cubic diamond at pressures up to 600 GPa have been calculated based on Density Functional Theory within the Local Density Approximation and the Generalized Gradient ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Exciton engineering of 2D Ruddlesden–Popper perovskites by synergistically tuning the intra and interlayer structures

open access: yesNature Communications
Designing two-dimensional halide perovskites for high-performance optoelectronic applications requires deep understanding of the structure-property relationship that governs their excitonic behaviors. However, a design framework that considers both intra

Validating and Calibrating the Nintendo Wii Balance Board to Derive Reliable Center of Pressure Measures

open access: yesItalian National Conference on Sensors, 2014
The Nintendo Wii balance board (WBB) has generated significant interest in its application as a postural control measurement device in both the clinical and (basic, clinical, and rehabilitation) research domains.

Multiple high-pressure phase transitions in BiFeO3

open access: yes, 2011
We investigate the high-pressure phase transitions in BiFeO3 by single crystal and powder x-ray diffraction, as well as single crystal Raman spectroscopy. Six phase transitions are reported in the 0-60 GPa range.

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...

Center of pressure displacements during gait initiation in individuals with obesity

open access: yesJournal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation, 2014
BackgroundObesity is known to affect balance and gait pattern increasing the risk of fall and injury as compared to the lean population. Such risk is particularly high during postural transitions.

Effect of nose bluntness and afterbody shape on aerodynamic characteristics of a monoplanar missile concept with bodies of circular and elliptical cross sections at a Mach number of 2.50 [PDF]

open access: yes
The tests were performed at a Mach number of 2.50 and at angles of attack from about -4 deg to 32 deg. The results indicate that increasing nose bluntness increases zero lift drag and decreases both the maximum lift-drag ratio and the level of ...

Rubidium Polyhydrides Under Pressure: Emergence of the Linear H3- Anion

open access: yes, 2012
The structures of compressed rubidium polyhydrides, RbHn with n>1, and their evolution under pressure are studied using density functional theory calculations. These phases, which start to stabilize at only P=2 GPa, consist of Rb+ cations and one or more
