Surface modification of Beckman Ultra-Clear centrifuge tubes for density gradient centrifugation of lipoproteins

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1982
A simple procedure for coating the interior surface of Beckman Ultra-Clear centrifuge tubes with polyvinyl alcohol is described. The coated tubes are wettable and allow salt solutions to gravity-feed down their sides.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

CENTRIFUGAÇÃO DE ESPERMATOZOIDES OVINOS EM GRADIENTE DE DENSIDADE CONTÍNUO: EFEITO SOBRE A TAXA DE PRENHEZ E PROPORÇÃO DO SEXO

open access: yesCiência Animal Brasileira, 2015
The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of continuous density gradients of Percoll and OptiPrep for separation of X-bearing sperm, and assess the influence on sperm viability, pregnancy rate and sex ratio.

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Preparation of Crude Subcellular Fractions by Differential Centrifugation

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2002
The employment of differential centrifugation to prepare crude fractions of subcellular particles from homogenates is often a necessary first step to a subsequent purification of one or more particles on a density gradient.

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Improvement in chromatin maturity of human spermatozoa selected through density gradient centrifugation

open access: yes, 2010
Contains fulltext : 97991.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access)A two-step gradient density centrifugation system has been set up to isolate two contrasting sperm populations of normozoospermic and oligoasthenoteratozoospermic (OAT ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Density separation of quiescent yeast using iodixanol

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2017
As yeast are starved of nutrients, they enter G0, a quiescent state. Quiescent yeast (Q) cells retain viability for extended periods of time and resume growth following supplementation of missing nutrients.

Isolation of Lipid Droplets from Cells by Density Gradient Centrifugation

open access: yes, 2016
Lipid droplets are organelles found in most mammalian cells, as well as various plant tissues and yeast. They are composed of a core of neutral lipids surrounded by a membrane monolayer of phospholipids and cholesterol into which specific proteins are ...
