Centrifuge Study on the Influence of Tunnel Excavation on Piles in Sand
© 2020 American Society of Civil Engineers. Tunneling-induced ground movements can affect the equilibrium state of an existing pile, causing uneven settlement among pile groups and damage to connected structures.

Centrifuge tests on behaviors of soft clay subgrade under cyclic loading
A couple of key test technologies for dynamic centrifuge modeling and the permanent deformation responses of saturated clay to cyclic loading are introduced. The rigid pavement is used in the model system.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Centrifuge Modeling of diffusion through rock mass
A geotechnical centrifuge has been employed to model diffusion of contaminants through fractured and intact rock mass. This paper deals with the details of the test setups used for this purpose. The obtained results have been compared with those obtained

Centrifugal shaking table tests on soil liquefaction and progress of LEAP projects
The centrifugal shaking table test is one of the most promising approaches to study soil liquefaction problems. On one hand, it can reproduce seismic response and reveal the ground failure mechanism induced by soil liquefaction, providing the scientific ...

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Effect of groundwater dynamics in rain-induced landslides: centrifuge and numerical study
Landslides are a multifaceted phenomenon triggered by rainfall infiltration as a consequence of the decrease in effective stress upon the development of porewater pressure. Although many studies concentrated only on rainfall infiltration as the source of

An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
