How rotation affects masses and ages of classical Cepheids

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
Classical Cepheid variable stars are both sensitive astrophysical laboratories and accurate cosmic distance tracers. We have recently investigated how the evolutionary effects of rotation impact the properties of these important stars and here provide an

First Detection of Radio Emission Associated with a Classical Cepheid

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
We report the detection of 15 GHz radio continuum emission associated with the classical Cepheid variable star δ Cephei ( δ Cep) based on observations with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array.

High-resolution Spectroscopic Metallicities of Milky Way Cepheid Standards and Their Impact on the Leavitt Law and the Hubble Constant

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
Milky Way Cepheid variables with accurate Hubble Space Telescope photometry have been established as standards for primary calibration of the cosmic distance ladder to achieve a percent-level determination of the Hubble constant ( H _0 ).

Properties of Cepheids and long-period variables [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1997
Some recent theoretical results concerning Cepheids and long-period variables are presented and compared with observations. Nonlinear pulsation calculations for select bump Cepheids are shown capable of yielding very accurate fundamental properties of these stars. The implications of the derived parameters are discussed.

uvby Colours of Cepheid Variables [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1974
Synthetic stellar spectra have been computed for Cepheids and supergiant F and G stars, using flux constant model atmospheres. These spectra have been used to compute theoretical uvby and UBV colours which may be compared with the observed colours. The supergiant α Per is used to establish the zero points of the theoretical colours.

Toward a renewed Galactic Cepheid distance scale from Gaia and optical interferometry

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
Through an innovative combination of multiple observing techniques and modeling, we are assembling a comprehensive understanding of the pulsation and close environment of Cepheids.

Discovery of the Longest-period Classical Cepheid in the Milky Way

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We report the discovery of the classical Cepheid OGLE-GD-CEP-1884 (= GDS_J1535467-555656) with the longest pulsation period known in our Galaxy. The period of 78.14 days is nearly 10 days longer than that of the previous record-holding Cepheid, S ...

Period–Luminosity Relations for Galactic Classical Cepheids in the Sloan Bands

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We present the first period–luminosity (PL) and period–Wesenheit (PW) relations in the Sloan–Pan-STARRS g _P _1 r _P _1 i _P _1 bands for classical fundamental-mode Cepheids in the Milky Way.

Clinical Validation of Four Point‐of‐Care High‐Risk HPV Assays, Including Two Reduced‐Valency Assays, for Cervical Cancer Screening in Low‐Resource Settings

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
High‐risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) testing improves cervical cancer screening by facilitating earlier detection and prevention. In low‐resource settings, however, cost and increased referrals limit its use. At the same time, many new and more affordable assays lack validation.

Milky Way Classical Cepheid Distances from Calibrated Infrared Period–Luminosity–Metallicity Relations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Classical Cepheids (DCEPs) serve as fundamental standard candles for measuring cosmic distances and investigating the structure and evolution of the Milky Way disk.
