Construction of microgrooves on the surface of alumina ceramic insulator to enhance its flashover strength

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2020
The fabrication method of grooves on the surface of alumina and their influence on the surface flashover characteristics of the alumina insulator were studied in this paper. To prepare grooves with a regular surface structure, the UV laser was applied to

Analysis of Structural, Optical, and Aquaphobic Properties of Zirconium Oxide Nanofilms by Varying Sputtering Gas

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2022
The problem of contamination in ceramic insulators was found to be frequent in power transmission lines and transformers. The key aim was to develop aquaphobic zirconium oxide (ZrO2) thin films using DC reactive magnetron sputtering over glass insulators

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

Sustainable Technological Route to Produce Ceramic Electrical Insulators in Iraq

open access: yes, 2013
Locally attainable byproduct materials in Iraq were used to produce ceramic electrical insulators. The compositions are based on crushed used bricks, which are composed of fired local clay.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Soft Mechanical‐Electrical Logic Using Liquid Metal‐Filled 3D‐Printed Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present 3D‐printed soft mechanical–electrical logic elements that use liquid metal–filled silicone tubes actuated by thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) architectures to produce Boolean operations. Complementary normally open and normally closed unit cells perform repeatable binary transitions and can be combined into more complex ...

Electrochemical Behavior of Flame‐Sprayed Sc‐Doped AlCoCrFeMo High‐Entropy Alloy Coatings in 3.5% Sodium Chloride Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Scandium (Sc)‐doped AlCoCrFeMo HEA coatings are fabricated via flame spraying with 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% Sc additions. Among these, the HEA‐Sc0.3 coating exhibits the highest corrosion resistance, indicated by a more positive corrosion potential and lower current density.

Influence of electrolyte conductivity on the performance of silicone insulators

open access: yes, 2020
The global market size of composite insulators is gradually increasing in contrast to that of ceramic insulators. In 2010, composite insulators took on 39% of the global market size, while ceramic insulators took on 50.5%.
