Abstract Sooty mangabeys are Old World primates from the Upper Guinea Rainforests of West Africa. They suffer from habitat degradation due to deforestation and hunting for the bush‐meat trade. Tiwai Island and adjacent small islands are a small protected area surrounded by the Moa River that is known for its high diversity of primate species.

Seed choice differs by sex in sooty mangabeys (Cercocebus atys)
Primates, 2020The sooty mangabey (Cercocebus atys) practices year-round durophagy. A large part of the C. atys diet consists of the oily nut of Sacoglottis gabonensis, which is accessed by post-canine crushing of the hard, protective seed coat. During a typical foraging bout, some seeds are discarded after initial crushing attempts using isometric biting, but the ...

Infant carrying by adult male mangabeys (Cercocebus atys)
American Journal of Primatology, 1984AbstractSixty‐five interactions where an adult male carried an infant in the proximity of a second male were observed during a 19‐mo period in a captive sooty mangabey (Cercocebus atys) social group. The behavior was distributed nonrandomly in both the adult male and infant classes.

Sooty mangabey (Cercocebus torquatus atys) IGHG and IGHA genes
Immunogenetics, 2006Antibodies are adaptor molecules of the immune system that link antigen recognition with the effector mechanisms responsible for antigen clearance. Several nonhuman primate species are widely used in biomedical research, especially for vaccine development and for AIDS-related studies. However, nonhuman primate antibody molecules have been characterized

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2014
The sooty mangabey (Cercocebus atys atys) is an Old World monkey belonging to family Cercopithecidae. It has recently been widely used as an important animal model for researches related to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and AIDS. In this study, the mitochondrial genome sequence of this species is determined and described for the first time.
