Dynamics of oxygen transfer in the cerebrospinal fluid

Respiration Physiology, 1968
Abstract Dynamics of oxygen transfer from arterial blood to the CSF was investigated in anesthetized dogs. P 2 , Pco 2 , and pH were measured in blood from the femoral artery, sagittal sinus and jugular vein, in addition to Po 2 and Po 2 in cistemal CSF at intervals during 30 min of constant ventilation with 100% O 2 ,14% O 2 or 70% O 2 -30% CO 2

A mathematical model of cerebrospinal fluid dynamics

Journal of the Neurological Sciences, 1976
The ability to solve systems of simultaneous non-linear differential equations by a combination of analytical and computational techniques has encouraged the development of valid mathematical models of biological phenomena. The dynamics of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) system has been the subject of closer scrutiny in recent years since the recognition

Dynamic Aspects of Cerebrospinal Fluid*

Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology, 1972
SUMMARYA proper understanding of the formation and drainage of the cerebrospinal fluid would be of great advantage in dealing with the problems associated with hydrocephalus and spina bifida. This paper considers the various hypotheses which have been advanced to explain the dynamics of cerebrospinal fluid. The earlier concept that csf was formed solely

Cerebrospinal fluid dynamics in patients with pseudotumor cerebri

Neurosurgery, 1979
Abstract CSF dynamics were determined as a function of intracranial pressure in patients with pseudotumor cerebri. Servocontrolled variable rate lumbar infusions were used to determine net CSF-absorptive capacities and resting pressures in 10 patients; serial studies were done in 5 of the patients.

Cerebrospinal Fluid Dynamics

1994
A large variety of functions have been attributed to the cerebrospinal fluid in the past. However, there are currently only four principal roles attributed to the CSF: 1 mechanical protection and support, 2 intracerebral transport, 3 provision of an internal milieu, and 4 a lymphatic role.

Computational Fluid Dynamics of Cerebrospinal Fluid

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) plays a critical role in the healthy function of the brain, yet the mechanics of CSF flow remain poorly understood. Computational fluid dynamics is a powerful tool capable of resolving the spatiotemporal evolution of CSF pressures and velocities, but technical and methodological limitations have limited the clinical use of CFD

On the flow dynamics of cerebrospinal fluid

Neurology, Psychiatry and Brain Research, 2015
Abstract Despite a not insignificant number of anatomical and experimental studies describing the distribution and movement of the cerebrospinal fluid several questions were answered controversially, leaving room for objections and doubts. Some of these controversies I have tried to address by new experiments.

Cerebrospinal fluid dynamics in skull base surgery

Current Opinion in Otolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery, 2004
This review examines disturbances of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics after skull base surgical and endoscopic approaches. Despite the continuing advancements and the effectiveness of skull base surgery, the incidence of postoperative rhinorrhea remains problematic.

Cerebrospinal Fluid Dynamics in Health and Disease

JAMA, 1962
This monograph presents the experimental investigations of 2 centuries, and the important advances of the past decade. Five chapters are devoted to the accumulated evidence on the absorption of cerebrospinal fluid, the production of cerebrospinal fluid, dynamic factors, the mechanics and treatment of hydrocephalus, and to other disorders of ...
