[Leakage of cerebrospinal fluid. Diagnosis and treatment].

open access: yesTidsskrift for den Norske laegeforening : tidsskrift for praktisk medicin, ny raekke, 1997
Leakage of cerebrospinal fluid may occur after fracture of the skull base or after surgery on the skull base, nose, or paranasal sinuses. Further causes of cerebrospinal fluid leakage are tumours and malformations. It may also occur spontaneously. We describe four case reports illustrating diagnostic and surgical problems.

Engineering mRNA‐LNP Medicines for the Ageing Brain: Opportunities and Challenges for Neurodegenerative Diseases

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in engineering messenger RNA (mRNA)‐lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) to cross the ageing blood–brain barrier and target neurodegenerative diseases. It outlines design principles, delivery routes, and translational challenges, charting a roadmap towards clinical application of mRNA‐LNP therapeutics for neurodegenerative ...

Pneumocephalus Associated with Cerebrospinal Fluid Fistula as a Complication of Spinal Surgery: A Case Report

open access: yesCase Reports in Medicine, 2010
Pneumocephalus is a well-known condition following head trauma, but is rare as an injury or as a result of surgery of the spine. We present a 76-year-old patient with a rare case of pneumocephalus associated with a cerebrospinal fluid fistula as a ...

Magneto‐responsive fibers and fabrics for soft systems

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
Abstract The combination of functional materials in fiber form has led to a surge in the integration of functional fibers and fabrics into soft systems that span sensing, communication, and actuation domains. A key subset is magnetic fibers and fabrics.

Research progress on the role of inflammatory mediators in the pathogenesis of epilepsy

open access: yesIbrain, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 44-58, Spring 2025.
In the central nervous system, activated immune cells lead to the overproduction of inflammatory mediators through the corresponding signal pathway. Under the stimulation of inflammatory factors, neuroinflammation ultimately occurs. Overexpression of inflammatory mediators and activated immunocytes plays an important role in the emergence and ...

Research progress on the depth of anesthesia monitoring based on the electroencephalogram

open access: yesIbrain, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 32-43, Spring 2025.
Electroencephalogram (EEG) can noninvasive, continuous, and real‐time monitor the state of brain electrical activity, and the monitoring of EEG can reflect changes in the depth of anesthesia (DOA). The development of artificial intelligence can enable anesthesiologists to extract, analyze, and quantify DOA from complex EEG data.

Navigating Post-operative Complications: A Case Report of Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak and Pan-Resistant Enterobacter Infection Following Lumbar Fusion

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Case Reports
Introduction: Post-operative cerebrospinal fluid leakage and deep surgical site infection are challenging complications after instrumented lumbar fusion, and their coexistence – especially with multidrug-resistant organisms – increases morbidity while ...

Early Postoperative Adverse Events (≤ 30 Days) in Spinal Oncology: Defining the Incidence, Severity, and Predictors in a Mixed Prospective Cohort Including Intradural and Metastatic Spinal Tumors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Complication reporting in spinal tumor surgery remains inconsistently defined. We aimed to quantify the incidence, severity, and spectrum of early (≤ 30 days) postoperative adverse events (AEs) in spinal tumor surgery and to identify predictors of overall and serious complications using standardized severity grading.
