The fascinating history of papillary thyroid carcinoma nuclei: revelation of two nuclear morphologies—“Classical papillary” and “papillary‐like”, with different pathobiologic characteristics

open access: yesCancer Cytopathology, Volume 134, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract The nucleus of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) has had a fascinating history since its early descriptions by Lindsay in 1960 and his designation of follicular variant papillary thyroid carcinoma (FVPTC) as a subtype of follicular carcinoma (FC). Later, Chen and Rosai revived the awareness of FVPTC and aligned this neoplasm with PTC.

Computational Design of an mRNA Vaccine Targeting LRP6 for Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer Therapy

open access: yesCancer Reports, Volume 9, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC) presents a poorer prognosis than other breast cancer subtypes, attributed to its aggressive nature and the lack of specific therapeutic interventions. TNBC has high recurrence rates and limited survival despite current therapies, emphasizing the critical need for improved treatment options.

Decoding the Oncogenic Role of USP22 Through Pan‐Cancer Genomic and Epigenetic Analysis

open access: yesCancer Reports, Volume 9, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Ubiquitin‐specific protease 22, an important catalytic component of the human SAGA (Spt‐Ada‐GcN5 Acetyltransferase) complex, regulates the deubiquitination and methylation of histones, which in turn influences gene expression. Its overexpression alters gene regulation, transcription, cancer progression, and therapy resistance.

From DNA Methylation Microarray to Digital PCR: A Stepwise Strategy for Tissue Specific cfDNA Biomarker Development

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 40, Issue 9, May 2026.
Overview of a DNA methylation biomarker development pipeline, from discovery and assay design to screening, performance evaluation, and specificity testing in clinical sample matrices. ABSTRACT Background Tissue‐specific cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) offers promise as a minimally invasive biomarker of organ injury.

Whole‐Genome Bisulfite Sequencing Identifies Blood‐Based DNA Methylation Biomarker for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Carcinogenesis, Volume 65, Issue 5, Page 603-614, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Functional DNA methylation abnormalities are a hallmark of human cancers and may be a promising biomarker for their early diagnosis. Moreover, the largest methylation differences can improve the sensitivity of noninvasive diagnoses of solid tumors.
