Acute inhalation toxicity of cetylpyridinium chloride
Food and Chemical Toxicology, 1991Cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) is a quaternary ammonium salt and cationic surfactant. It has been used as a biocide in personal hygiene products and a charge control additive in some reprographic toners. CPC is orally toxic to rats, mice and rabbits and can cause severe eye irritation.

Study of cetyltrimethylammonium and cetylpyridinium adsorption on montmorillonite
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2006Adsorption of cetyltrimethylammonium (CTA) and cetylpyridinium (CP) onto Na-rich montmorillonite (MMT) was studied. For this purpose, the adsorption isotherms of CTA and CP, along with desorption curves of metal cations (Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+), were obtained by means of capillary isotachophoresis and atomic absorption spectrometry.

The interaction of amylopectin with cetylpyridinium chloride
Journal of Colloid Science, 1961Abstract The complex which is formed between amylopectin and cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) in dilute aqueous NaOH is indicated by a turbidity, measured spectrophotometrically. No significant turbidity is apparent in the absence of any of the components.

There are gaps in its effectiveness against gram-negative pathogens and mycobacteria.
