High prevalence of a host‐associated Anaplasma lineage in wild coatis (Nasua nasua) from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Anaplasma sp. DNA was detected in 47.9% of free‐ranging coatis (Nasua nasua) sampled in Iguaçu National Park, southern Brazil. Molecular analyses revealed a genetically distinct Anaplasma lineage infecting coatis, differing from Anaplasma strains detected in associated tick populations.

Entomological surveillance of Trypanosoma cruzi vectors in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Discontinuous entomological surveillance and persistent infestation by triatomines highlight the risk of Trypanosoma cruzi transmission. The diversity of triatomine species in the peridomicile shows the potential for colonization into the home. The wide distribution of Triatoma brasiliensis and Triatoma pseudomaculata accompanies high rates of ...

Changes in the Pterygopalatine and Midpalatal Sutures After Rapid Palatal Expansion With Tooth‐Bone‐Borne (MARPE) and Tooth‐Borne (Hyrax) Appliances

open access: yesOrthodontics &Craniofacial Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This retrospective cohort study aimed to compare the effects of tooth‐bone‐borne mini‐implant‐assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) and tooth‐borne (Hyrax) rapid palatal expansion (RPE) techniques on the pterygopalatine suture (PPS) and the opening pattern of the midpalatal suture (MPS).

Therapeutic targets in chagas disease

open access: yes, 2017
Optimal pharmacotherapy occurs when we have selectivity and no toxicity. The discovery of specific pathways or enzymes that are vital forcell or parasite survival is also vital for the design of new specific, non-toxic drugs for the treatment of cancer ...

Revisiting the Molecular Roadmap for Sugar Crops: Genome Reading, Trait Writing and Variety Redesigning

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sugar crops, including but not limited to sugarcane, sugar beet, sweet sorghum and stevia, are major sources of sugar production in the world. However, conventional breeding approaches, limited by long breeding cycles, low efficiency and restricted capacity to improve complex traits in sugar crops, are increasingly insufficient to address the ...
