The direct link model for polymer rings as a topological field theory and the second topological moment in dense systems

open access: yes, 2001
Polymer rings in solution are either permanently entangled or not. Permanent topological restrictions give rise to additional entropic interactions apart from the ones arising due to mere chain flexibility or excluded volume.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

(E)-N-[2-(Biphenyl-4-ylvinyl)phenyl]furan-2-carboxamide

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2008
In the title molecule, C25H19NO2, the furyl ring is twisted by 46.3 (1)° with respect to the phenylene ring bearing the amido group. In the stilbene unit, the two phenylene rings (i.e.

Semigroups, Rings, and Markov Chains

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical Probability, 2000
We analyze random walks on a class of semigroups called ``left-regular bands''. These walks include the hyperplane chamber walks of Bidigare, Hanlon, and Rockmore. Using methods of ring theory, we show that the transition matrices are diagonalizable and we calculate the eigenvalues and multiplicities.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

4,4′,6,6′-Tetra-tert-butyl-2,2′-[1,2-phenylenebis(nitrilomethylidyne)]diphenol acetone solvate

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2008
In the Schiff base molecule of the title compound, C36H48N2O2·C3H6O, the central benzene ring makes dihedral angles of 46.64 (10) and 49.34 (10)° with the two outer benzene rings, and the two outer benzene rings form an angle of 39 ...

Structure and dynamics of ring polymers: entanglement effects because of solution density and ring topology

open access: yes, 2011
The effects of entanglement in solutions and melts of unknotted ring polymers have been addressed by several theoretical and numerical studies. The system properties have been typically profiled as a function of ring contour length at fixed solution ...

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2011
In the title compound, C26H31NO4, a sinomenine derivative, the angle between the two aromatic rings is 53.34 (4)°. The N-containing ring is in a chair conformation, while the other two non-planar rings are in a half-boat conformation ...
