Chalcogenide glass photonic crystals

open access: yesPhotonics and Nanostructures - Fundamentals and Applications, 2008
Abstract All-optical switching devices are based on a material possessing a nonlinear optical response, enabling light to control light, and are enjoying renewed interest. Photonic crystals are a promising platform for realizing compact all-optical switches operating at very low power and integrated on an optical integrated circuit.

Structure and Spectroscopic Characterisation of Phenanthroline‐Based Iodobismuthate(III) Complexes Utilised for Raw Acoustic Signal Classification

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Memristors based on trimethylsulfonium (phenanthroline)tetraiodobismuthate have been utilised as a nonlinear node in a delayed feedback reservoir. This system allowed an efficient classification of acoustic signals, namely differentiation of vocalisation of the brushtail possum (Trichosurus vulpecula).

Radiation modification of chalcogenide glass structural network

open access: yesТехнологія та конструювання в електронній апаратурі, 2008
It has been established that in the γ‑irradiated sample of chalcogenide glass with the composition Ge15,8As21S63,2, a radiation‑induced reduction in the fragility of the structural network takes place.

Device‐Level Implementation of Reservoir Computing With Memristors

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Reservoir computing (RC) is an emerging computing scheme that employs a reservoir and a single readout layer, which can be actualized in the nanoscale with memristors. As a comprehensive overview, the principles of RC and the switching mechanisms of memristors are discussed, followed by actual demonstrations of memristor‐based RC and the remaining ...

Recent Advances in Stimulated Brillouin Scattering in Integrated Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
This review systematically surveys recent advances in stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) within integrated photonics. It begins by elucidating the fundamental mechanisms of stimulated coupling between photons and acoustic phonons in nanoscale waveguides, enhanced by the photoelastic and moving boundary effects.

Study of the Chalcogenide Nonlinear Fiber Bragg Gratings for All-Optical Switching

open access: yesCommunications, 2012
In this paper uniform and apodized nonlinear chalcogenide glass fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) as novel and promising devices for all-optical switching are investigated. The transmission response of these devices is discussed theoretically.
