Estimating channel performance for time invariant channels

It is shown that estimating the coherence bandwidth (/spl beta//sub c/) of a static WLAN channel from frequency domain snapshot measurements using the complex autocorrelation function, commonly reported in the literature, is wrong and meaningless. In such cases the channel is time invariant or non-fading but time variant theories are mistakenly applied.

A method includes determining a sequence of first coefficient estimates of a communication channel based on a sequence of pilots arranged according to a known pilot pattern and based on a receive signal, wherein the receive signal is based on the sequence of pilots transmitted over the communication channel.
