Characteristics of Problem Instances
1998The requests on algorithms applicable in VLSI CAD differ from other areas. This also influences the design of EA based tools. For this, in this chapter some important aspects are highlighted that have to be considered.

Characteristics of Dynamic Problems
1996Abstract There are a variety of problems where the behaviour of soils in dynamic loading is of concern, but because of diversity in the areas and complexity in the conditions under which dynamic loads are applied, it is not easy to establish a hierarchy in the discipline and to put all problems in a proper perspective.

Characteristic Modes for Aperture Problems
IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 1985A theory of characteristic modes is developed for problems consisting of two regions coupled by an aperture. The modes are derived from a weighted eigenvalue equation whose eigenfunctions define a set of real expansion functions for the equivalent magnetic current over the aperture region and whose eigenvalues are the modal aperture admittances.

Characteristic Manifolds and the Cauchy Problem
1978This multi-index notation is extremely convenient for partial differential equations, keeping us from drowning in a flood of subscripts. We consider here “vectors” ξ = (ξ1,...,ξ n ) with n (usually) real components and “multi-indices” α=(α1,...,α n ) which are vectors whose components are nonnegative integers.

Characteristics and Initial-Value Problems
1983Roughly speaking, characteristics are curves which carry information. They are particularly relevant in the study of “initial-value” problems ; that is, in solving partial differential equations, in which the solution surface is required to assume prescribed values “initially.” Such a problem presupposes the existence of a distinguished coordinate, ξ ...

INTERMETALLICS: CHARACTERISTICS, PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS
2008Intermetallics is the short and summarizing designation for intermetallic compounds (IMCs) and phases, which result from the combination of various metals and which form a tremendously numerous and manifold class of materials. Intermetallics with outstanding physical properties led to the development of functional materials in the past. During the last

Characteristics-based modelling of flow problems: Dissertation
1994The method of characteristics is in principle an exact way to proceed to the solution of hyperbolic partial differential equations. The numerical solutions, however, are obtained in the fixed computational grid where interpolations of values between the mesh points cause numerical errors. The Piecewise Linear Interpolation Method, PLIM, the utilization

Some internal characteristics and problems
1982Seen from without, the aspects of that great Socialist experiment, started by the Russian Revolution sixty-three years ago, which absorb the interest of foreign observers, are chiefly its external effects. It is consequently, with its strategy of political expansion, its capacity for attaining its avowed ends by military or other means and the ...
