Designing Network Protocols for Good Equilibria [PDF]
Designing and deploying a network protocol determines the rules by which end users interact with each other and with the network. We consider the problem of designing a protocol to optimize the equilibrium behavior of a network with selfish users.

Extension of bounded linear functionals and best approximation in spaces with asymmetric norm
The present paper is concerned with the characterization of the elements of best approximation in a subspace \(Y\) of a space with asymmetric norm, in terms of some linear functionals vanishing on \(Y\).

A Characterization of Best Simultaneous Approximations
Let \(X\) be a compact Hausdorff space and \(Y\) a normed linear space and let \(C(x,y)\) denote the set of all continuous functions from \(X\) to \(Y\), equipped with a norm. The author takes up the problem of approximating a finite number of functions in \(C(x,y)\) simultaneously by a function in a subspace of \(C(x,y)\).

On the time-frequency representation of operators and generalized Gabor multiplier approximations
28 pagesInternational audienceStarting from a general operator representation in the time-frequency do- main, this paper addresses the problem of approximating linear operators by operators that are diagonal or band-diagonal with respect to Gabor frames.

Characterization of generalized convex functions by best L2-approximations
AbstractLet M be a normed linear space, and {Mn}1∞ a sequence of increasing finite dimensional subspaces, i.e., Mn ⊂ Mn + 1, for all n. For any element ƒ ϵ M, we obviously have d(ƒ, Mn) ⩾ d(ƒ, Mn + 1), for all n, (1) where d(ƒ, Mk) is the distance, in the metric induced by the norm, from Mk to ƒ.In a recent paper [2], we discussed the space M = C[a,b ...

Characterizations of local best Chebyshev approximations
AbstractLocal best Chebyshev approximations are characterized by a condition which can be considered as a generalization of the general Kolmogoroff criterion. In the discrete case, this condition is shown to be equivalent to the general Kolmogoroff criterion itself. Finally, local characterizations of the general Kolmogoroff criterion are given.

A characterization of best simultaneous approximations
On considere l'espace des fonctions d'un espace de Hansdorff compact dans un espace lineaire norme et on s'interesse a l'approximation simultanee de telles fonctions, dans le sens de Tchebychev, par des fonctions appartenant a un sous espace de dimension ...

Best Approximation and Moduli of Smoothness [PDF]
2010 Mathematics Subject Classification: 41A25, 41A10.The aim of this note is to present moduli of smoothness which are introduced by different schools of approximation for characterization of the best algebraic approximation.

ABSTRACT End‐of‐life conversations with adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer rarely occur without the guidance of healthcare professionals. As a part of the ‘Difficult Discussions’ study, focused on palliative care and advance care planning discussions with AYAs with cancer, we investigated the factors that healthcare professionals identify ...

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)
