Captive Breeding of the Chinese Alligator Reduces Inbreeding but Increases Genetic Load

Captive breeding of the Chinese alligator successfully reduced genomic inbreeding but increased the burden of deleterious mutations. Genomic analyses indicate that managing both genetic diversity and genetic load is essential for the long‐term conservation of this critically endangered species.

A Comprehensive Repository of Morphological, Life‐History, Ecological, and Environmental Data for Sirenians and Marine Carnivorans Worldwide

We constructed a standardized data repository for all 46 species, integrating 56 variables across morphological and physiological, life‐history, ecological, biogeographical, environmental, and conservation dimensions. Additionally, we collected data on body size, coloration, distributional range, and extinction risk for all 22 subspecies.

Wild‐sourced wildlife trade is not only increasing in volume but also changing in network structure. Using three decades of CITES trade records, we found that the wild‐sourced wildlife trade has become increasingly connected and taxonomically uneven, with Anthozoa contributing a growing share.
