Optical absorption spectrum in disordered semiconductor multilayers

open access: yes, 2010
The effects of chemical disorder on the electronic and optical properties of semiconductor alloy multilayers are studied based on the tight-binding theory and single-site coherent potential approximation. Due to the quantum confinement of the system, the

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Insight into the significance of ramped wall temperature and ramped surface concentration: The case of Casson fluid flow on an inclined Riga plate with heat absorption and chemical reaction

open access: yesNonlinear Engineering, 2021
The importance of heat absorption and chemical reactions and their impact in engineering is increasingly appreciated. However, little is known about the effect of chemical reaction and heat absorption of ramped wall temperature and ramped surface ...

[Cutaneous absorption of chemicals].

open access: yesJournal of the South African Veterinary Association, 1987
Chemicals have become indispensible for the maintenance of health in animals and man. The route of administration of each medicament is decided by factors such as site of desired action, chemistry of the active ingredient, age and species of the patient, and frequency of administration (or desired duration of activity). In situations where the oral and

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

DETERMINATION OF HEAVY METALS IN FOODSTUFFS BY ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROPHOTOMETRY [PDF]

open access: yesFiabilitate şi Durabilitate, 2021
AAS uses the atomic ownership of absorbing electromagnetic radiation at certain wavelengths of infrared (IR), visible (VIS) or ultraviolet (UV) radiation, thus providing a detectable signal proportional to the concentration of atoms.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Process simulation of CO2 capture from CO2‐EOR associated petroleum gas with aqueous MEA and MDEA solvents

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering, 2019
Associated petroleum gas produced by CO2‐enhanced oil recovery (CO2‐EOR) has a complex composition, high CO2 content, and is unstable. To date, no integrated process simulation for CO2 capture of the EOR associated petroleum gas has been developed. Based
