Photocatalytic hydrogen production via g-C3N4 based S-scheme heterojunctions: Mechanism and design principles

open access: yesChemical Engineering Journal Advances
The need for new and cost-effective ways to produce hydrogen from solar light is important in developing solutions to our current energy needs. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is a promising photocatalyst because it is a chemically inert that absorbs ...

BayesX: Analyzing Bayesian Structural Additive Regression Models [PDF]

open access: yes
There has been much recent interest in Bayesian inference for generalized additive and related models. The increasing popularity of Bayesian methods for these and other model classes is mainly caused by the introduction of Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC)

The microbiome in human skin aging

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐related skin changes encompass the well‐known visible phenotypic alterations, together with microbiome dysbiosis and a series of molecular aging hallmarks. These hallmarks characterize not only a fully stablished aged phenotype but also the skin aging process itself.

Innovative spiral nerve conduits: Addressing nutrient transport and cellular activity for critical-sized nerve defects

open access: yesBioactive Materials
Large-gap nerve defects require nerve guide conduits (NGCs) for complete regeneration and muscle innervation. Many NGCs have been developed using various scaffold designs and tissue engineering strategies to promote axon regeneration.

Autophagy and mitophagy in pancreatic β‐cell homeostasis and their involvement in diabetes pathophysiology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review focuses on the role of autophagy and mitophagy in maintaining pancreatic β‐cell function and homeostasis. We discuss how genetic defects affecting these pathways contribute to the development of type 1, type 2, monogenic, and gestational diabetes. We further explore their potential as therapeutic targets. Created in BioRender.

Synthesis and electrochemical evaluation of a bisimidazoline hexafluorophosphate ionic liquid as a corrosion inhibitor for Q235 mild steel in acidic media

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science
A novel bis-imidazoline ionic liquid (BIL-PF6) was synthesized to overcome drawbacks of conventional imidazoline inhibitors including weak water solubility, insufficient anticorrosion performance and simplex function.

Additive manufacturing and high performance applications

open access: yes, 2018
The requirement on life and robustness for aero-engine components poses obstacles to additive manufacturing. It is expected that increasing knowledge about the process and thereby its development together with adaption of existing alloys may improve ...

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.
