Biodegradable and Recyclable Luminescent Mixed‐Matrix‐Membranes, Hydrogels, and Cryogels based on Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks and Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

Dual‐Nanoparticle Engineered Hydrogel Reverses Bicellular Oxidative Stress to Accelerate Diabetic Fracture Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
CD105‐LNPs and PS‐LNPs can deliver α‐lipoic acid to bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and bone marrow‐derived macrophages, reversing high glucose‐induced oxidative stress while enhancing osteogenesis and M2 polarization. Integrating both nanoparticles into glucose‐responsive hyaluronic acid hydrogel forms DLNPs@HA hydrogel, which accelerates diabetic ...

Functional Hydrogel for Modulating Lipid Droplets and Neuroinflammation in Head Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
After TBI, elevated cholesterol levels in activated microglia lead to the accumulation of cholesterol esters in lipid droplets, exacerbating neuroinflammation. A β‐cyclodextrin‐conjugated GelMA (βCD‐GelMA) hydrogel is developed to promotes cholesterol efflux and reduces LDL influx, thereby alleviating intracellular cholesterol and lipid droplet buildup.

Comprehensive characterization of natural products of Polygonum multiflorum by cheminformatics analysis

open access: yesPharmacological Research - Modern Chinese Medicine, 2023
Introduction: A growing body of evidence has suggested that Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. (PM) may cause PM-herb-induced liver injury (PM-HILI). However, the compounds triggering PM-HILI remain controversial.

Cocktail of chemical compounds robustly promoting cell reprogramming protects liver against acute injury

open access: yesProtein & Cell, 2017
Tissue damage induces cells into reprogramming-like cellular state, which contributes to tissue regeneration. However, whether factors promoting the cell reprogramming favor tissue regeneration remains elusive.

Aptamer Functionalized Hydrogel Dressings for Post‐Surgery Tumor Recurrence Inhibition and Tissue Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Post‐surgical tumor therapy struggles with recurrence and inefficient healing. Anti‐tumor DNA aptamer functionalized gelatin hydrogels, Apt‐GelMA, simultaneously address both issues by suppressing tumor regrowth via targeted tumor cell inhibition and enhancing wound healing through improved cell adhesion and migration. Their biocompatibility, stability,

Antioxidant and hepatoprotective effect of Jatropha dioica against the valproic acid-induced damage in an in vivo model

open access: yesBMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies
Background Understanding liver diseases is important worldwide due to their prevalence. Apart from liver disease arising from hepatitis C viral infection, most chronic liver diseases currently have no cure.

Charakterisierung der Chemikalien-induzierten Leberschädigung („Drug-Induced Liver Injury“ – DILI)

open access: yes, 2017
The aim of the presented PhD thesis was the development of a new in vitro test system which allows for a better characterization and prediction of drug- induced liver injuries (DILI). After the initial damage of hepatocytes, the activation of the immune system can aggravate this damage and lead to severe liver failure. This important interaction should

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

Development of a high throughput system to screen compounds that revert the activated hepatic stellate cells to a quiescent-like state

open access: yesScientific Reports
Chronic liver injury induces fibrosis that often proceeds to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, indicating that prevention and/or resolution of fibrosis is a promising therapeutic target.
