Bioenergy II: Biomass Valorisation by a Hybrid Thermochemical Fractionation Approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The need for green renewable sources is adamant because of the adverse effects of the increasing use of fossil fuels on our society. Biomass has been considered as a very attractive candidate for green energy carriers, chemicals and materials.

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Determination of the liquid pool surfactant and protein concentration for semi-batch foam fractionation columns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A model is derived for the change with time of the concentration of a surface-active component in the liquid pool of a semi-batch foam fractionation process.

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

AN EVOLUTION FROM PRETREATMENT TO FRACTIONATION WILL ENABLE SUCCESSFUL DEVELOPMENT OF THE INTEGRATED BIOREFINERY

open access: yesBioResources, 2010
The current state of biorefinery development is focused almost entirely on the production of fuel ethanol. However, an ethanol-centric approach misses the crucial example set by the petrochemical industry.

Seasonal trends of the stable nitrogen isotope ratio in particulate nitrogen compounds and their gaseous precursors in Akita, Japan

open access: yesTellus: Series B, Chemical and Physical Meteorology, 2019
Particulate matter (PM) can have adverse effects on human health. Moreover, because the mechanisms of PM formation and behavior in the atmosphere are notably complicated, to reduce PM concentrations effectively and meet environmental standards, source ...

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

On-farm fractionation of milk components

open access: yes, 2006
Methods for on-farm extraction of low-concentration (minor) proteins from raw whole bovine milk directly after milking were explored. These minor proteins have high commercial value.
