In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Emerging chemical driving force in electrocatalytic water splitting

open access: yesEcoMat, 2023
Electrocatalytic water splitting involves the breaking/formation of chemical bonds and the concomitant dynamic reconstruction of catalyst structure, both of which, in a conventional view, are directly driven by the applied bias.

QCD in One Dimension at Nonzero Chemical Potential [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Using an integration formula recently derived by Conrey, Farmer and Zirnbauer, we calculate the expectation value of the phase factor of the fermion determinant for the staggered lattice QCD action in one dimension.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Temperature, chemical potential and the rho meson [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We describe some applications of the Dyson-Schwinger equations at nonzero-(T,mu). Employing a simple model dressed-gluon propagator we determine the boundary of the deconfinement phase transition and the medium dependence of rho-meson properties.

Breakdown of staggered fermions at nonzero chemical potential

open access: yes, 2006
The staggered fermion determinant is complex when the quark chemical potential mu is nonzero. Its fourth root, used in simulations with dynamical fermions, will have phase ambiguities that become acute when Re mu is sufficiently large.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The chemical potential of a Lennard Jones fluid

open access: yes, 2010
The aim of this paper is to present an analytical calculation of the chemical potential of a Lennard Jones fluid. The integration range is divided into two regions. In the small distance region, which is $r\leq\sigma$ in the usual notation, the integration

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
